The article didn't mention any constraints whatsoever on voicing objections, reservations, etc during the meeting. They were free to raise objections and concerns during the meeting, no? The fact that with one exception, they chose not to do so is telling

I suspect more people are injured skiing than climbing.
I don't know many climbers who voluntarily drop 60' cliffs or do 360s off jumps.

I can't imagine why they didn't keep up with something thats alot of work and pita for little return....
Make it fun for them. I started XC skiing in the backyard at age 2 (or thereabouts). About 10 I started downhill skiing (because that's what friends were doing). If you make it fun for them and it's something their friends are into it, chances are they might stick with it.

I have a hard time with New Orleans. I think New Orleans should be abandoned becuase of the geographic location--Mother Nature is going to win the battle. But what do I do?
By that same token Woodinville, Chealis and Centralia should be abandoned.
