I found a white Black Diamond Half-Dome helmet, with a purple visor, and a attached headlamp on the upper Coleman. Would love to get it back to its owner!

awesome, such a cool, unique, place for climbing/traveling(not that i know), I hope I can make the show, I wonder if Eli will be there?

sorry to hear about that, definatly makes for a bad day. what color/design is the top, and base? do you think it could have continued down past the fumeroles into the white river drainage?

my grigi works pretty good, although I only use it with double 8mm ice floss, which is not at all what it was meant for, regaurdless it works well. you could borrow it for a month or so if we happen to be in the same area. I've also just tied knots in rope going through standard atc.

Thanks for the great TR. I took my dog up Borah ~8 years ago, and promised myself I would come back. All that monster sage brush is pretty cool.

this is a cool website for freezing levels - http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Mt-Hood-Meadows/6day/mid sounds like sunday moring would be the "best" time to go, but might still be too wet then. definetly a positive thread - good idea to get bros thinking about possibile shiite going down. -

sounds like it could be potentially dangerous up there. I heard meadows is installing an avi control cannon - to bomb the wyeast for control of heather canyon. Take cover if you here sirens! -
Had a great ski day up on Hood yesterday, climbed Pearly Gates, skiied Leutholds, then climbed and skied Reid glacier Headwall. It was great to meet Slog-on from cc at the Hogsback. TR- http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=9683.0

I'm not really sure, I did'nt have a clock that worked that day. The sun was pretty high in the sky by the time I left - guessing around ten, then pretty low - probally around 7 when I returned. It would have been faster if I had skinned back up the north side.

Excellant pow on Mcloughiln - A unwanted encounter with a State Trooper got me started on a bad foot, but pow conditions and sunshine quickly brightend the day. TR - http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=9649.0

Went up to check out the conditions for a ski of the left of heart variation of Avi Gulch, clouds above 9k, then lifted to 10k for descent, had to wait a few for the vis though. Snow was pow, frozen corn, windboard, and ice. Looks like another UFO sighting, I might have to report this to agent Skully. Hopefully she'il want to bring me in for questioning. Conditions at ~10k -

More fun in the Castle Crags yesterday, not quite as quality as before, but still a great time. TR- http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=9563.0

I skiied the West Face of Shasta today - hainously icy - mixed with windboard. I climbed Avi Gulch, which looked to be in good condition for skiing. 96avs01 - The SE side still looks a little rocky to me, however, there is definitly plenty of snow in there; winds were pretty puishing out of the north this last storm. nice jsport, wish I got high this weekend, work and other unfortunate business kept me down. looks like the weather couldn't have been better.

Skied the Southeast face of Shastina today, variable above 10k ice above 11k. It was kind of a disappointment, as I wanted to ski the Northeast face too, but it was all surface ice. This is the NW aspect of Shasta, as seen from the north summit of Shastina.

Thanks all for the conditions beta! I definitely appriciate it. So given that there is a lot of snow on the Southside, It would probably as safe a time as any to say that there would be a soft surface on north aspects? bonathanjarrett- I will get my ass up there. I am still concentrating on Shasta related endeavors at the moment, but Hood is on the horizon. godski5- thanks! I look forward to your update.

Anyone been up thar recently? what could one expect on northerly aspects as far as surface condition this time of year? or is that a tard question due to daily variance?
-
It looked like there was alot of snow down there. However the north side - all the way up to the base of the mountain is completely devoid of snow. The snow/rain shadow effect on Shasta is severe, with a large island patch of seemingly out of place desert to the north. If you had a 4x4 could probally drive to the base of Whitney glacer without encoutering snow, but there is probally 10' on the south side! the north routes look like the most fun, but they are likely too icy for me now, as much of the recent wind has been from the north.

skiied Trinity chutes from summit on 17th, perfect corn. Attempted west face, but skiied AG route from 13300 plateau on 18th, highly variable knar. trs- http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=9225.0 http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=9226.0
