  1. the weather seems fine from the reports hmmm I wonder
  2. anyone know about the road through whicky shelter?
  3. agree
  4. I am going for Adams on the 15th - 19th. I know it is a day early just putting it out there
  5. nope, but I think just below them I am going to
  6. I will stick with the 1 Oct - 1 April time while it is free. I went twice in Oct last year 06, and it was great. Had 4" or so of snow at the Biv, but no one else on the mountain other than the 3 of us climbing. I like going at the last minute on climbs, not having to plan it out, even though it is only 2 days out.
  7. I am going to be going up on Sunday night / Monday morning. If anyone wants a talking buddy as we slog up let me know.
  8. Missed you by a week. I have the 13th-18th off for just climbing
  9. I like the OR Chaos
  10. timberline lodge has a couple good links too
  11. didnt know the floor was heated, I could have used that a couple of times
  12. yeah it sucks not having that dam bathroom open. I always forget to use the rest stop before the turn off to Timberline
  13. Either way we eneded up doing a little climbing, and I do mean a little on Monday. Didnt go very far due to the gusts up to 80 mph or so and the sustained 50 mph winds just above the lodge. Tested some new gear in the worst conditions I will ever use it in, and I got to show a buddy just how much the weather can be diffrent from 1500' to 7000' and why you never know if you are going to make it to the top. Oh well.
  14. So does anyone have one booked? Looking to spread out the cost? Let me know. I am part of a group of 3. We will not become part of your climbing party if that is what you are worried about. Just looking for a ride. Steve
  15. Yeah, myself and a buddy went up over X-mas and we were going to use a tent but changed our minds to a snow cave. It stormed for 2 days and we never made it past the top of the lift. It sucked. High winds, white out, and of course cold. It was nice inside of the cave though. We decided to head down and just go from pole to pole on the ski lift (about as far as we could see). I am now going for the one day shot, seems to be way easier. Lugging that pack sucked. It was good training though for woeking on our snow cave. Just my thoughts. Have a good climb either way you decide.
  16. I myself dont have skies, maybe this will be the next piece of gear for me. If the weather stays like it is showing I am going up on Monday with 2 of my friends. Hopefully it stays good. Is anyone taking a cat up on Monday morning that wants to lower the cost? If so let me know, it will be adding 3 more people, and no worries we will not join your climbing party we just want a lift. Once again thanks for the advice. Steve
  17. Thanks for the info. I always have my "pons" with me even when I am not on snow, I guess they are the one thing I add on to my essentials list for everything. Note to self, "after looking at the picture buy anti balling plates, Check." I just wasnt sure wether or not I needed my snow shoes. Once again thanks for the info. Steve
  18. So would you need snow shoes or crampons at the moment? I was up there over X-mas and snow shoed up. It seemed there were places where I needed them and not. I just dont want to lug them up there if I can just use some crampons (or my boots) and slug my way through some smaller areas of powder, or just shoe over them? Has the powder blown mostly off? Thanks for any help I plan on going up Monday the 9th. Good climbing to all. Steven
  19. great pics, still way above my level though
  20. out of 4 attmepts on 3 driffrent mountains this year only made the summit once. Hell I had to trun around on St. Helens twice this year and everyone thinks it is a cake walk. Oh well. I am still here, the mountain is still there (for now anyway), and there is always more time to climb it another day. I think some of the best lessons learned are from turning around and thinking about "what could have happened".
  21. what are the dates you are looking at?
  22. yep, good tent, plenty of gear, and food for extra days, and hold out for a good summit day. Should have the pics by Friday. Looked at the camera didnt take to many cause we were more worried about getting off the mountain before it got any worse, so the camera ended up in my pack instead of on me.
  23. we felt the same way
  24. Went up on Friday 22 Dec. Got a late start so didnt make it all the way up and since the impending storm for Sat we dug in for the storm instead of setting up a tent. One heck of a storm. Just got down today, didnt make it all the way up. Worn out from keeping the entrance to the cave open. Will post a report with more and pics when I get them.
  25. I was one of the guys from Seattle. We just ended up snow shoeing up to climbers biv and eating some lunch, enjoyed the view, and then came back down. Still a good day but nothing like we had planned.
