I shit you not! I found a small copy of The Holy Bible on the scree slopes off the west side of Jack. Can't imagine that it's worth much, but guess the color and it's yours!

Actually, most of the two hours was spent waiting while one 3-man team gave rapelling lessons to a gal with them. It was her first time, apparently doing anything. Nice place to learn, eh?

Climb: Three Fingered Jack-South Ridge Date of Climb: 8/20/2006 Trip Report: I won't bore you guys with too many details, since Jack has been popular lately but Kevin_Matlock and I went up on Sunday. Simply hiked in the 5 miles or so the climbers trail, headed on up to ridge, scrambled up, dropped our packs, belayed across the Crawl, scrambled some more, waited 2 hours for our turn up the pinnacle, summitted, then did the whole thing in reverse. The interesting part was our view of the fires on Washington and Jefferson. We heard that the approach to Washington was actually closed, even though the Puzzle fire looked a bit more impressive. Gear Notes: Cam on summit pitch, quickdraws, etc.

Thanks man. Wierd that I didn't come across this when I googled the name and "middle sister". Maybe the "F*&K U Hippies, Log the Earth" chalked onto a rock on the PCT on the way to Jack was a response to Mr Thomas and his ideals! Ha!

Folks: I apologize if this is not the correct forum, but does anybody know who the hell Norman Thomas is? I have seen his named chopped into rock on the summit of Middle Sister, the top of Lil Bro, and just above the chickenheads but below the summit on the pinnacle of Three-Fingered Jack. It's probably other places as well, but I wasn't really paying attention until now. Just curious if he's some significant person, or just an ass who likes hammering on rocks.

Don't knock The Logs. Nothing like a greasy burger and a cold pitcher of Rainier after a good climb!

So I gather that when someone literally holds your life in their hand, you have to trust that they know what they're doing? Hmmm....

Pretty fun. This time last year there were only a couple hairy spots, which woulda been cake with crampons. I did take my axe. Only the crowds! Try the Pole Creek TH and go up the north side of South from Camp Lake! Fun! But, seriously, I don't think there are any access issues, unless for some wierd reason you were taking 242.

I thought the key difference between grizzly and black bears was in the scat....ya know....grizzly bear's have bells in it and smell like pepper spray.... Sorry, couldn't resist!

Glad to hear it went well, 111. From Lil Bro, we couldn't see the fire, but the road was closed right before Dee Wright. Washington, 3FJ, and Jeff looked smoky (as you can see in the pic). We could just make out Hood.

Absolutely. All of those are on my list but, quite frankly, I've been waiting to go with someone who has been before. As an FYI, I have a bit of roped glacier experience, but not any rock. I'm not averse, but hopefully someone with me might have a bit of patience!

OK, from personal experience I can say that it sucks to get so many people view a post and have practically no one reply! Though most folks seem to like rock. I'm like you and have done a bit of alpine stuff. I'm always looking for other folks to head with me to the hills. Although I'm most interested in hills that I haven't done before, I occasionally go stir crazy and have to go to Sisters or Adams again. OK Folks: I need to get out in the hills. I have the weekends of 8/5 and 8/19 available. I can usually take off a Friday and/or a Monday in addition. I've only climbed Hood, Adams, Shasta, St. Helens, South Sister, Middle Sister, Thielsen and Broken Top. Would like to try something different. I'm not really into rock (as you can see by where I've been), but can deal with as much as is necessary to make it to the top of a mountain. Have a harness, and can pick up more gear if necessary. No probs with a full pack and long distances. I'm pretty fast, but don't really enjoy running up mountains. I like to enjoy the views. If anyone has similar time available, and an idea of where to go, let me know.
