  1. It does sound like a blanket slam. Otherwise why post it. DU rounds are used by many modern armies, esp NATO countries. Try this: (http://www.nato.int/du/home.htm) Yet you only question the policies of the US govt. What gives. Why does everyone else get a pass?? And then there is this, also from the same article: "Various NATO countries and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) recently recovered penetrators in the Balkans and tested them for the level of contaminants. Their findings are consistent with DOE/DoD findings. The UNEP concluded that the transuranics have no significant impact on the overall radioactivity or the health risk. " So that is the US govt, NATO and the UN finding pretty much the same thing. And in the interest of equal time, try this website: http://www.iacenter.org/depleted/du.htm Pretty darn light on the science and heavy on hyperbole. Hey, I'm not trying to come down on you. It's just that there are plenty of more important things to fret about. Why waste time hashing out non-issues when there are bigger deals to worry about. Like UN peacekeeping troops buggering little children in Africa.
  2. Hmmm... It's easy to point fingers. Got better info? Let's see it.
  3. Easy tiger. Why don't you find something else to worry about. http://deploymentlink.osd.mil/faq/du_faq.shtml
  4. Neither, the dude is a psychopath. I'm not a big fan of abortion, but I agree that this guy should grow old and die in a federal pen. He'll never draw breath as a free man again. How is that for crushing. Sometimes the system works.
  5. I like my superfeet a lot. I used to always get blisters. The important thing for me was to find someone who really knew what they were doing to help me get a pair of hiking boots that actually fit. Turns out I have a narrow heel - which means heel lift - which means blisters. The superfeet help immensely. As far as finding a person who know what the heck they are doing, look for some combination of a couple of things: someone who measures both of your feet, someone who can explain _why_ a certain manufacturers boot will fit you better than anothers, someone who can tell you what kind of foot you have (low-volume, high-volume, funky toes, etc). Good luck.
  6. E-Rock is on the money. Call up OSHA. They'll shut those guys down in a blink. Any organized labor like that and OSHA keeps really close tabs. And I can't believe they wouldn't let you file a police report. They may discourage you, try to talk you out of it, but don't let them. Your valuable personal property was damaged and you were injured. You need to memorialize the incident. Lastly, I don't know if this was a private outfit working for the county, or a county crew. Either way you ought to call up your county public works dept and complain. And then work your way up the chain. All else fails, call the TV news - just don't clean up the mess before the cameras show up. Good luck.
  7. Anyone climb in thailand lately. Or not so lately. Many thanks.
  8. Hey Chuck, that is perfect. Thanks for link. Follow up question: Any word on what the climbing gym in Redmond is like? I couldn't find too much on the gym forum. Many thanks.
  9. Hey folks. I'm a climber from the midwest - St. Louis, MO. I gym climb some. Outdoor climb in So Ill (Southern Illinois) and Horseshoe Canyon in Arkansas. I just got offered a job in Redmond. (But nothing to do with computers. Heh.) I've been lurking the site a bit. Can someone breakdown for me what the rock climbing is like in the Seattle area. And some of the good outlying areas in the PNW. I'm looking to find out more about mainly sport routes. I'm also just starting to learn some trad climbing - but there just aint much in my area. Anything you got is appreciated. The funnier the better. Post away. Or shoot me an email. And if anyone wants to show me the sights when/if I wind up out there, let me know. -Rob
