  1. I hate it when people watch me, because it makes me lose concentration

I used to be that way. I especially hate(d) - I guess I still do - climbing in the gym or crowded crags because I felt distracted. I learned it benefited me greatly, as a person and a climber, to work on my concentration and focus by not avoiding those situations. Though I dont enjoy being around a lot of people when climbing, I have definately increased my tolerance and improved how it affects my climbing/concentration.

I also didnt mean to imply reading was a worthless way to go while learning. For me, and those who may have a similar learning style, reading - then understanding/doing, just doesnt work well. I have to read/do/read/do/do/do/read/do/etc. Im a much better visual and hands on learner.

Im also curious how your trip to smith went.

whos trip me! j/k. Hows Minnnesotaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Can't say I miss going to grad school there =)

  2. Just curious. If the weather broke wouldn't they head up to the summit and down the south side? For those who climb Hood often would it be easier to summit and go down the south side or to climb down the North face from where they found the snow cave? Looks to me like the South side is the easy side to get down. Again let me state I have not climbed Hood so I am just curious. With all the developments lets stay positive. The guys need our prayers and positive vibes. Here is east coast sending our prayers. Wayne New Jersey

They did summit, and I believe their cave is on the south side. Either way If they are ok they should be trying to get down today on their own power. That is what I would do today if I was in that situation.

  3. Letting the Mt. return to its natural state would be great! but imagine how much business the local area would lose. Also this Mt. provides many abroad a learning experience in how to maintain and help keep other Mt.s preserved. All in all if they didnt rebuild its not only the climbing community that would be affected but also my community. And in a sense, the world in one way or another... So i say REBUILD!!! and if they need volunteer help drop me a line.

Instead of building roads into the park they could make a train that goes to Paradise and sunrise. that would be sufficent to meet the publics needs.

As far as others roads go. I say lets keep I-90, but all these silly back water roads should be allowed to rot. Lets turn the cascades into one great nature preserve.

Why should we allow people to live near mt rainier anyways? its all going to be destroyed one day, and why should the goverment keep subsidizing people to live in hazard areas!

  4. Climb: Baker Seracs

    Date of Climb: 10/21/2006

    Trip Report:

Ryan, Graham, and I spent the day on the seracs on Saturday, beneath fine sunny skies. There was fun to be had, but I have to say there was less climbable terrain than I've ever experienced down there. The glacier seems to have 'gone mellow', and most of the walls are low and/or not very steep. The very few STEEP things were thin and unstable looking, so we stayed away from them - there is rubble in the trenches under a couple of likely candidates. But the one decent wall we did find was worthwhile..

  6. And the "Hard Rock Climbers for Christ" Diatribe on the inside of the back cover? That is just bizarre, Dude. And about as stupid a name as the guidebook "Rockin' on the Rock": really wholesome yellowsleep.gif Christian inspiration there! That must have been quite a bolt from heaven for those two gems! thumbs_down.gif

  7. On July 2,two women experienced mainly on single-pitch sport routes chose Condorphamine Addiction for their first multi-pitch route. they completed the ascent, and one rappel of the descent, when one of the women mis-rigged on the second rappel and fell to her death, leaving her partner stranded one pitch below the top of Condor Buttress. A team climbing the same route behind the women witnessed the fall, and evacuated the surviving stranded partner. A team of Chelan County Sheriff's Deputies, and volunteers from the Chelan County Mountain Rescue Association accompanied one member of the rope team that rescued the survivor back to Condor Buttress, located the fallen woman's body, and was able to reconstruct, from the configuration of rope and rappel device, the most likely rappel failure scenario (one of two ossible rigging errors). Our findings and analysis will be publlished on this board when our report to the Chelan County Sheriff's office has been completed and submitted. The Woman's body was removed by helicopter early morning of July 3.

Seems a bit intense for your first multi pitch route doesnt it? I'm sorry to hear about this terrible accident

  8. Someone passed my name onto an advertising firm in downtown mpls. They are building a climbing wall in their office for a "partners" going away party. He is going to Nepal for six months. They want to hire me to basically keep them safe as they climb. They bought 800 bucks worth of gear (harnesses, helmets, ropes, climbing holds, biners, etc) and their contracter - whoever that is- will be building the wall next week. After looking over the site I am all over it as long as I get to make sure the anchors are secure and I personally have an area to run if the wall tips over laugh.gif. I asked the going guiding rate. After seeing WHO they are, I now wish I had asked for double. Since this is a disposable event, I will also be acquiring all the gear at the end of the party.

As soon as I got on the elevator, I started laughing my ass off. What a great time this will be!!!!!

Only something as silly as this would happen in Minnesota. Otherwise sweet deal with the gear!

    LATEST NEWS FROM MINNESOTA SECTION!

Our intrepid Midwest section climbed in the gym with oxygen masks on as part of their training for Rainier, America's most difficult mountain!

Alright, sneaking this MN shit-talk into the picture is TOTALLY uncalled for and innappropriate. And dont think this is the only time I have seen it happen recently!
