Lame Nichols parody, this should be in spray.......

That comment only applies to the GriGri, Cinch is NOT held open to feed slack, rather one always has the brake hand on the rope. There is a big diff between the manual belay, and also between the GriGri and Cinch. If you're used to manual belay, Cinch is pretty natural.

True story of my first lead belay. After learning to belay in Wyoming on braided goldlines, bowlines, hip belays and tied off to a tree, I managed to convince my mom (think I was 13) to get me a lesson once back home. The instructor (a great guy and good friend) wanted me to belay him on a 5.8 lead, and since I was about 100lbs and he was easily 170lbs I told him I wanted a belay anchor, as I had been taught in Wyo. Well he said I'd be ok, but I refused, and tied myself into a log sitting in a cross legged position. Turns out the 5.8 was wet, he fell, bent the rigid shaft of a Friend that did hold and ended up swinging upside down looking me right in the eyes, less than two feet off of the deck and about a foot in front of me. I was still sitting cross legged.

Leave it to NJ to create optimal environmental conditions for the birth of the Grivel Monster Horn. Little horn is born..... Sorry, just kidding. I seriously doubt that it would ever fit even with a dedicated custom conversion reality show. It was made to convert standard aluminum oval shafted Grivel tools into good leashless rigs, like the Monsters. Have the Horns on Matrix lights and love them.

Well at least somebody has a record of my stealth edits.....

Great report, it should be easy to confirm no threads with a good exam of the runner. Guess a great lesson here is to go through and inspect all parts of the system before each trip where they are used. Especially everything. Next accident will be something completely different. I also no longer use or am belayed by anything other than a Cinch or GriGri while sport climbing, period. One never knows when whippers can go big. I tend to do that inspection after a trip, as I clean, dry and/or organize my kit. BTW--Great Avatar!!!

Glad to hear you're doing well! Just a thought but you might want to spend more time fishing until you can climb again, maybe find a buddy's boat that can take you while in your chair even, you'll be outdoors and that fresh air (and beer ) does wonders.

12cm is std. length, personally prefer dyneema in 10mm and 14mm widths, as they are more useful for trad, alpine and ice. DEFINITELY get draws with rubber inserts to hold the biner; BD Dynex dogbones seem the best. Don't feel like you have to buy quickdraw sets, you can mix & match biners Keylock solid gate or snag free wiregate are the way to go. Hands down. Camp Nano 23's are great for trad and alpine. Anything DMM rules.

Well you could always relocate CC hosting to the DPRK.

Don't worry about the 'pons, you're snow walking, not doing WI6, just make sure you know how to place anchors, self arrest, ascend ropes, and set up z hauls. After winter in the Daks, you're more than ready for the other parts of Rainier.

I beg to disagree, GOP types start illogical wars and their campaign donors make billions, send shareholders first. Blood should follow profit.

Pretty much sums up the spray genome.

Any update on his condition?

Riot vs. War? One is the mob tired of the 1%, The other is the 1% tired of the mob.

Have to say it's much ado about nothing, gym ropes are a different breed from what we know as climbing ropes, they have to be bomber and some are not even dynamic in the sense of a true lead rope, as far as their traits go. Why don't you just ask the gym?

Probably cut off of a spool, hence to id tags.

Indeed, but the discussion wasn't about hippies. No, it was that you kinda misunderstand the Swedes.
