The question still remains. Is it considered freeing a route if you pull on branches. Not if there are ethics surrounding it.

Whether its is on or not was not the topic sobo (thread drift)...... I asked; if you grab a tree are you still freeing the route?

So "where" and what "elevation" the crag is determines if you can grab a tree or not? this to me seems so simple. If you can reach it....its on.

I disagree. And in fact, at least one guidebook may expressly prohibit it. Are guide books the bible? I think not......they are just a guide.....not an end all.

Interesting response. As far at the BOC tree at index....if you can reach it, its on. IMO.

Climbed the new route in question today. We all thought it was solid 10.c.

Last time I checked the rangers did not want "anyone" with in 300 feet of the nest. Big Ledge is one rope length (200 feet) from the trail. You do the math.....
