Shasta- time from TH to lk Helen & snow lineridehikeclimbski replied to Eugenian's topic in California Go to http://www.climbingmtshasta.org/ then click on climbing report.....excellent current data updated every few days by the Shasta Climbing Rangers. National Weather service link there lists the Shasta weather predictions. Usually takes me 40 mins to Horse Camp, additional 1 plus hour to Lake Helen depending on pack load. Happy Climbing !

Squamish Motel Questionridehikeclimbski replied to ridehikeclimbski's topic in British Columbia/Canada Thanks for the links to the accomodations however after reading all the hoopla on how to be a ultra cheapskate on CC.com, I decided to skin up Blackcomb with AT and camping gear. Get a non-validated ticket from a supermarket as mentioned on an old thread , build a multi level snow cave per instructions from the new thread on hardcore snow-camping and after reading about RUNNY eggs I rather cook my own breakfast. Heck I could spend a week or a month up there skiing the upper lifts for free !!

I used to stay at the Super 8 when I skied Whistler in pre 911, now I finally got my birth certificate and want to head up there. When I got on the Super8.com...no listing on the motel, did it change owners and what is current name ? My kids sure like the slide in the indoor pool. Thanks for any answers

Sorry to hear about your car, hope you can find alternate transportation or at least recover your car in original condition and catch the bastards who stole it. I drive an 87 Honda Accord (a fine piece of shit) and use the CLUB steering lock, effective so far.

OSU claims they have the largest university climbing wall in the PNW, opened last Wed. It features more than 7K square feet of climbing surface with 3 different textures used on the walls. The hours are 4 pm to 10 pm weekdays and 1pm to 5 pm on weekends. Enjoy

What a bummer...... I used a 20% coupon recently to get Freeride bindings from REI.com, I gambled thinking they would swap the standard width brakes for the wide ones, like Backcountry Store does, well they wouldnt do it. They said I had to either return them or use them. So I ended up keeping them and buying the wide brakes at BC store, only saved 8 bucks overall, LOL. Which store location did you have the problems ? I am heading to the Seattle REI store to try on some G-Ride boots this weekend, hope the help is decent. Might ski Alpental Sat if theres some fresh snow.
-
I was wondering, are G-Rides a warm boot or do I use 2 socks (thick and thin) to stay warm while climbing up high, I use 2 socks in my Koflach Degre boots. Also can I use the CM S12 crampons w/o the bail wire on the toe on these boots or is the bail wire one recommended ? Going up Whitneys MR in March and ski from the notch down after summiting. Thanks for your input on them, rather listen to CC.com regulars than the local ski shop sales people ... almost lunchtime .

Has anyone here used satellite for internet access such as Direcway? I live in a remote area (17 miles to Springfield) with crapppy phone lines, no tv cable available, only get 21600 bps thru my power company ISP. I understand you cant play games or upload very well but downloads well with satellite. Thanks for any feedback on that.

mt bachelor takes sickness to a new plateuridehikeclimbski replied to gapertimmy's topic in the *freshiezone* Nice shot of 3FJ !! I do agree resort skiing is lame and a joke but for a local hill with a high speed lift, the Pass is fun. The tree run I was talking about isnt shown in the pic. BTW I hardly ski the resorts in Oregon, I prefer to go to JH or Blackcomb for endless possiblities in and out of bounds. People in Bend are lucky to have a nice higher elevation ski area close by, have a relative that resides there whos retired and skis there weekly. The Hole is having a banner month for snow , first time in ages almost 100% of the mtn will be open on opening day this Sat. Thinking of heading over there for Xmas and New Years if the snow keeps falling .

mt bachelor takes sickness to a new plateuridehikeclimbski replied to gapertimmy's topic in the *freshiezone* Thought it was called Mt. Flatchelor ....for Oregon I rather spend my $ at Willamette Pass on a great cold, knee deep powder day.....try the skiing/boarding the trees next to RTS , thats STEEP, DEEP and NARROW ! holy

Thanks for all the suggestions , the 20% off coupon applied to REI/US Bank CC holders, it expires today ! However REI is backordered on the standard size Freerides, darn but I ordered it anyway. Had great luck with REI on all previous purchases/returns. I emailed BD asking if they knew the width of the brakes that REI sells and asked if they would swap if needed for no extra charge if I paid the shipping. I use 03 XXX bandits for inbounds skiing , rather not use the Freerides for cliffs or jumps. Maybe soon they will have a stronger binding that suits both AT and alpine. TGR High Life is showing tonight in Eugene, am pumped especially with all the early season snow !! Taking my daughter and a high school foriegn exchange student from Denmark , apparantly he has skied the Alps in France , lucky kid ! Have fun in Telluride and anywhere with POWDA !

I am considering these for my new Atomic R:ex , have a 20% off coupon for REI , but cant seem to get thru the Portland store to see if they will trade the standard brake for the wide one for no extra charge, even emailed the REI.com question post and the person that replied didnt know if the brake was included ,geez the online REI Freeride page mentions the brake IS included ,DUH . Backcountry store offers either brake when you buy from them at the same price as REI. Any other places offering better deals ? I am a pathetic cheapskate ...Thanks !

Hey ,lets hear your ski/board or barefoot run of your life on snow . Yes, you may include pond skimming or anything goes on snow !

One of the best runs I ever had in a ski area was taking the Germania lift up at Alta then hike up Mt Baldy and ski down the Main/Little chute with tons of dry powder, creating a mini avalanche every turn , that run kicks ASS !
