  1. I'm going to climb via another route on the 5th of July, then take a day or two break, and come back and attempt the Ridge.

If your plan is to descend the Emmons, then if you were to climb it a couple of days before it would take out a lot of guess work if you encounter whiteout/or tired or whatever. Might take some guess work out if it comes to that. Hopefully you'll find/found some partners bigdrink.gif

LISTENER LETTER to THE DORI MONSON SHOW

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.(Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.)As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

    Horrors!

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it. But we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on . No one was able to reach us all day. NO CELL PHONES!!!!!

    Unthinkable!

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes. No video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers or Internet chat rooms . We had friends! We went outside and found them. We played dodge ball and sometimes the ball would really hurt . We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

    They were accidents.

No one was to blame but us. Remember accidents? We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls, ate worms, and although we were told it would happen we did not put out very many eyes. Nor did the worms live inside us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them. Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade.

    Horrors!

Tests were not adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected . The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Imagine that! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors. Ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility. We learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them! Congratulations! Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good !!!!!

    People under 30 are WIMPS

No offense 20 somethings! Still love ya!

    Thank you,

  3. I've not been on Hood, nor done a 'schrund or 40-50 dergee slope without rope/protection. Naturally, I'm a bit hesitant...any reassuring thoughts?

Dood. The 40-50 degree is more like 35-40+ maybe. It depends on who you talk to, but I would (and have many times) solo this. Dogs go up it sometimes. Just take cramps ice ax and defenitely a helmet. Truely the amount of traffic this route gets combined with good conditions it *can* be a walkup, but weather can change, and it seems that it will be windy after a front passes through, like sat, could be windy Sunday. I would not worry about going solo.

  4. Considering what smokers pay in taxes here in WAcommune they should have a place they can go and let the free market dictate a smoke free bar. Sheeet the bars here in Pierce county are suffering big time while the Indians let smoke flow freely at their casinos and bars. Next thing the gov will restrict is a Big Mac..... hahaha.gif

He was impeached in the sense of being charged, but he was not impeached in the sense of "to remove from office."

Hey dumbass. The way the goverment uses the term in this sense means to have charges brought up against. Quit trying to mire everything in semantics and admit that you were wrong. Look in a history book if you are too studpid to figure it out for yourself. I did that in the 3rd grade... I think you can manage it with some help. wave.gif

Dude, you could be right but you really take away any point you make by resorting in namecalling and negative stuff. Maybe you should go out for a drive in your truck.... snugtop.gif

There is no Dumbness Award for this site, so you don't have to keep posting. Thank you. rolleyes.gif

I can just picture it now . MrDonothing peddling his commi made chinese bike slowly back to his high mountain cabin deep into the furthest draw of Deming after posting drivel on a TRS-80 computer at an old library using a fake library card rolleyes.gifyellaf.gifcry.gif

  7. What kind of mileage you getting with your truck ?

Think about who you may be benefiting with the cartels squeezing the supplies and may take prices to over $3 a gallon by this summer, it's not just emissions.

  9. Ah PP -

Well, lets put the whole picture togeter. The author works for a right-wing think tank that consistently is pushing positions for industry. He writes an article bashing science predictions on the natural environement as worthless, while disregarding the a lot of important information.

If the article went something like this - While ecologists have often underestimated man's effect on natural systems, there is often a deficit in understanding the complicated interactions of social policies, trends, and their effects to the environment - then if he presented some of the underestimates and some of the big mis-predictions it would be an objective report.

The guy is an industry shill. How about some orginal thoughts PP - ya gotta get those right-wing sites off your favorites list, or at least add some balance to them.

Here's the site, judge for yourself

  10. Any philosphy cosmological or otherwise eventually reaches a point where it breaks down or fails to account for or explain certain things.

I am glad you qualified that statement, because I defy you to find one instance where Christianity breaks down. But Oh! it fails to explain 'certain things.' What system pray-tell does not?

Scott_H, I just spent a long time reading this whole thing, and I think you might be hurting what you are trying to defend, your not helping others that may agree with you .

But debating religion has been around as long as the mountians. You either believe or you don't, and you can't change peoples minds -thats what it comes down to.
