So here's a question then...
Would you be better of running out a climb on a bomber piece of pro, then possibly falling a long way onto it, or putting in a questionable piece after the "bomber piece" then falling and having the questionable piece pull, fully streching the rope and loading up for a huge impact on your "bomber" piece? Would the second scenario increase the chance of complete failure in the system?
My first instinct is to say the more pieces the better for both safety and for climbers piece of mind to not be 20 feet above your last piece. But it makes sense to me that if you take all the give out of the system, then load it up, you run a greater chance of pulling the bomber piece.
Pardon my newbieness if this has been discussed ad nasuem before or if the answer is "never place a questionable piece" (which from my standpoint seems impossible), but it seems like a good question to me.
The first aid test is not difficult at all, it based on the red cross first responder book. However high score is not the only requirment to get in at NSCC, they also rank based on affiliation. Also keep in mind that to get your certification at the end you have to be employed with a state affiliated EMS.
The WFR class that I took does an anaphylaxis workshop (we stick each other with saline to practice) although we not legally covered without the guise of a program medical director we can use it under the good samaritin laws and be pretty safe.
Matt, EMT-b can only pipe an upper airway obstruction right? I though you had to have an additional airway Tech designation to tube someone.
Over all im pretty happy with what I got out of the WFR class and with the exception of W-EMT it seems the most appropriate to what we all do, especially the additional "wilderness protocols".

Lawgoddess-
Anything up to about 5.11, doesnt really matter to me, I'll climb 5.7's all day if it means im out climbing. But Erik is right how I belay and whether or not I've killed anyone is probebly more important on a sport climb. The answers by the way are solid and no.
What about you? I should be free on monday if you wanna go, I've been trying to plan an enchantments trip but it fell apart.
Hey, I just posted looking for a partner, if your willing to take on a relative newbie, with some skills and drive hit me up, no bullshit excuses here, I got no job, no kids, no lawn and am ready to go at the drop of a hat.
Anybody interested, Im ready to go anytime, Tomorrow is good too. To be honest I'm somewhat of a newbie to outdoor sport climbing, done tons of bouldering and gym climbing and a little bit of leading. But I havent had any partners of late to go out an clip some hangers with and I'm itching to fire of some routes with someone.
I'm unemployed with all the free time in the world, So as B.S 'er said in a recent post... Where are we going and when do we leave?
