    Judging the relative value of someone's profession is a wholly subjective auto jerk most people don't engage in because they've progressed beyond a kindergartner's social intelligence. To someone who doesn't give a damn about Egyptology, which would be most people, someone like Raindawg might appear to be a complete waste of protoplasm.

     

    Someone a bit more mindful might recognize that we all need each other both job-wise and otherwise. The very same archeologist who hikes up his apparently flagging sense of self worth like a blown out jock strap doesn't appear to possess the wisdom (and it doesn't take much) to realize how much he depends on everyone around him; taxi driver, garbage man, plumber, stockboy, to make his beloved profession possible. Similarly, he hasn't the wisdom to realize that people are much, much more than their jobs. Finally, he can't seem to figure out that the simpleton's measuring he engages in is completely arbitrary. For example, let's compare job worth based on how vital it is to the health and well being of society. Based on that criterion, farmers and plumbers (gazinta, gazouta) would top the list, I'd wager, and 'Archeologist'...well, not so much. If we knew nothing at all of ancient Egypt, few peoples lives would be much the poorer for it.

     

    And then there is a concept of the whole person. Raindawg is proof positive that a person can be accomplished in his chosen profession on one hand, and still be an utter buffoon.

    raindawg, i apologize if i hurt your feelings. i was just trying to have fun. i will refrain from saying anything more about your work, which i actually think is very interesting.

    No one looking for those things would be looking in the Columbia River Gorge forum. Oh, and BETA is for Dicks.

     

    For sure they would be look’n for a bolt agenda post about a Norwegian trundle

    However they might look for a trip report Duh! The purpose of the CRG forum

    This has to do with the Columbia River Gorge and bolting …HOW ? :rolleyes:

    What do you have to do with the Gorge?

    I have to do with the gorge about as much as this tread has to do with the Columbia River Gorge and bolting

    The point being that some time ago it was though That the agenda type post would be in spray so as not to blow off the regular Joe climber looking for BETA , partners, Trip reports ect.

    Thanks to Watts for the long awaited new guide, thanks to all the route setters that give their time, hard work and money to put up routes for the rest of us and a special thanks during the holidays to Jon and the Mods for running a class act, a site that is loose enough to be fun but not so loose that the wingnuts get out of control.

    Fixed that for you. I suspect if you saw the price of a Barrett 50 cal, you'd be less entranced. Especially when you saw the ammunition costs. What would one do with something that can shoot 5 miles anyway? Deer and Elk are out of the question as I suspect a good part of the meat would be ruined, and who's going to walk that far to dress it and carry it out?

     

    Makes you wonder what kind of hiking around that girl does in those platform shoes.

    Thanks to Watts and climbers like him that put up routes ,putting in the work and money to leave a legacy of classic climbs for the rest of us to enjoy.

     

     

    So true....but this thread was so much more interesting with pope and raindawg around.

     

    It would be interesting in spray where it belongs so we could poke :poke: insults at each other.
