A lot of people have posted in this thread that they enjoy reading TR's. I think a lot of people would prefer that this site retain some climbing content so they can at least fool themselves that they are spending 4 hours/day at something a bit more meaningful than a talk-radio chat board. If you belittle TR's (which noone here admits to doing), or if you belittle the very thought of someone actually wanting to post a trip report of something as lowly as [insert climb that is casual for you here], then you are discouraging further TR's from being posted. That's all. I think people do like TR's. I don't think I'm making that up. I think that if people want more of them, then they have to suffer through the bad ones and try to redirect that oh-so-clever quip to another thread.

I was driving across the country with this friend and we stopped at the World's Fair in New Orleans. We got pretty hammered, him especially, and I drove us across Lake Pontchartrain (long fucking bridge when tired and hammered) to find this campground out in the bayou. My buddy was in that halfawake halfasleep drunk stupor and being all combative and shit and when we got out of the car we were arguing about something and he just says fine fuck you blah blah blah and walk off into the night. I'm thinking good riddance and bed down. Well, turns out he was out on his feet drunk and when he finally "came to" he found himself walking out on a road in the middle of the bayou in Louisiana, pretty much had no idea where he was!

Nothing compared to your story, but when moving up to WA from CA with all my earthly possessions stuffed into and on top of a VW Rabbit, I passed out late in some legal-like campground in Roseburg?, Rose something-or-another right in the middle of OR. But anyway, the campground is directly below I-5. Constant truck roar. Then about 5am I find out that my parking spot is also 5 feet away from a train track! A big ol' train does make a pretty effective alarm clock I guess. At least I didn't have to pay for that spot . Sorry no beta for the bivy spots. I usually just drive straight though. Oregon at 3am is a pretty cruiser drive.

If you're going to tinker then it makes sense to plan for the likelihood of removing an ill-placed bolt. I am not an experienced bolter, but one tactic I've witnessed experienced bolters use is to drill the hole deeper than necessary. Then if the bolt placement sucks and you want to "erase" it, you can just pound it into the hole flush with the rock. Seems like those removeable-bolt thingies might be a good alternative when "tinkering". But I have no hands-on experience with them and it seems like everybody I've ever talked to about those things hates them for one reason or another.

I believe the "route report" forums are set up for this. Since last year there is less tolerance for spray in them. Yes, there are more things than just TR's but if you write "TR" as the first two characters in your subject line that would help people identify it as such. There is also that "mambo" feature (does that still exist?) where you can get your "article" placed in the articles section. Unfortunately this requires being seen as a self-important chestbeater ( ) because only the author can mambo their own works. I think? If you do write a cool trip report, please put the name of the climb in the body of the report (not just the title) because I suspect the lame search utility on this site does consider titles. Might try using a couple keywords too. Even better D, you could just save all TR's as text files and put them on your site! For example, see this . ETA: Clarification on the "mambo" thing. It looks like you don't need to be the author to mambo something. I just did it for Strickland's El Cap report. Click the little button to "PUBLISH".

I just replaced the power-steering belt. Now it squeals worse than it did before. Anybody care to clue me in to some tips for a car-mechanic mortal to tighten that thing better? Pulling up on the PS motor with one arm while tightening the bolts just didn't do the trick. Thankyouverymuch
