  1. Got registered today so I can start tonight. Since I can't register at Mowich and I don't want to drive there after registering at Longmire I'm changing my plans. I'll do it Clockwise stoping at s. Puyallup tonight, Carbon River Sat., Indian Bar, Sunday. Like I said, anyone passes me I'll be wearing the RED bandana. Hopefully no rain all weekend. Here is the route I'm taking: Longmire 0.0 Sum Pyramid Creek 3.8 3.8 Devils Dream 2.0 5.8 S. Puyallup 6.5 12.3 Klapatche Park 4.0 16.3 N. 2. I climb a lot. I use the Park & Ride a lot. The best solution to car break in: I go to the auto auctions at local Tow companies. I buy cheap cars, like a perfect 1980 VW Rabbit for $40. I use this to get to the trail heads and park it when I ride the bus. I leave it unlocked with nothing inside. One time the stupid theif had started to jimmy the door handle (easy to do in older VW's) when he relized that the damn thing was unlocked. He had put the handle's chrome trim on top of the car and left the glove box open. Why take nice cars to trailheads and leave nice things in them? Kinda like a hot chick wearing a swim suit getting drunk at a Frat party and expecting nothing will happen when she passes out! Or, you can get some of the security devices the South Africans are making to protect vehicles, one of them is a flame thrower. Really, it shoots flames upward across the window openings! 3. Just called MRNP, it is raining cats & dogs. They say the trail if not clear now will be due to the rain. It begins......
  4. I'm going alone. I don't want to slow anyone down, nor be slowed down. Bringing light bivy gear. If dry night starting Friday night at Mowich (in question); going Counter-Clockwise (debating). Since I won't be relying on cache's I'm not going to have a firm camp schedual, I know MRNP has you register, but I figure I'll be starting and stoping in the dark, who will check? No stove, just purification tablets. I'm thinking of bringing just GU. Anyone with suggestions for food? I figure the faster I do it the less food I have to carry. Should I bring: I'll be the one with a red bandana on top of my balding head.
  5. Yeah we met one of the Climbing Rangers in Peru, he gave us good Beta. He also gave our intro at the Ranger station. Many people ditch their gear at 11K (stupid). 14K is the best skiing I've ever had. We skined up the West Rib Direct cutoff to check out that route, It wasn't in. We skied back to camp from there. I forgot about a nasty ass crevasse, saw it in time to get enough speed to clear the lip about 12 feet below. I thought I was a gonner! The landing was perfect and soft (lots powder). made for cool ass tracks when viewed from camp. We stayed an extra day after we summated to ski rescue gully, but the weather socked in and we left.
  6. 2.5 days if I'm going good, 3 is planned. 1 if I bail. Thanks for the info, anyone else??
  7. quote: You didn't find the Denalis awkward at all. Did you replace the liners or go with the stock ones? I went with the stock liners. I wore the boots from the time we got on the airplane till we got off. They fit great, but no French tech. Took a few minutes to adjust to the limited flexibility, but didn't hinder me. No cold feet, nothing. I wore the buckles really loose. We had a very cold summit day too! Here are some action shots of the gear in use: Return to 11K camp, placed cache Getting ready to yo-yo ski 14K camp YO-YO'ing to 14K camp! 8. Want to do the Wonderland Trail this weekend. Any snow on the trail yet? Still free and clear?
  9. I was up there this year. We hit the tail end of nice weather which meant we had crappy weather. However, at 14K camp we were able to ski fresh powder every day. The set up I had was awesome. here is what I used: Bindings: Silveretta Easy Go 505's. No problems, stable, quick release in all my spectacular wrecks, wonderfully rugged and quick to adjust. They work equally well with my Denali A/T boots, Lowa A/T boots and Salomon Super Mountain 9 Guide's. Boots: Scarpa Denali's. I did NOT bring plastic mountaineering boots! Wanted to climb the full West Rib in them. Because of time and weather we summated from 14K camp. Round trip in 12 hours in Denali A/T boots. They are heavy, but manageable and comfortable. No cold feet, and you can cut turns like you had custom downhill gear! Skis: Last year I started out with a pair of Völkl V3 177's. They sucked in crud and wind crust; especially with a pack on! I switched to Völkl V (Twin tip) 178's, they ROCK! You can also land 180's These skis are the lightest I've found in that size and cut. The ski has unbelievable control in all snow conditions. Skied a lot in the back country before we left, so they do good in the crud and wind crust. They performed great in the powder on Denali. I would leave the shorter skis at home. JDOG's skis were even longer, at some crevasse crossings, I was wishing I had a couple of cm's I would recommend a clip for the rear of the skins.

  15. Since I wasn't there on the mountain that day I have no hard facts. I didn't do the recovery. However, I do have friends in that business, so I reported what I heard! Now there is an article in the Seattle Times this morning about Homer and Wickwire which confirms what I heard. However, if you believe the media is a state run institution and they are covering up his disappearance by faking his death on Rainier to send him on a secret spy mission I can't refute you since I didn't physically see anything. So for now I'll say, "heard and read" instead of just ”heard”. If this dosn't make you happy ask Jim or go to Homer's service. Homer's Death, Wickwire is leader From the above article: quote: Team leader Jim Wickwire, 62, of Seattle, reported the death by cellphone at 6:15 a.m. More facts from the article: Hommer is survived by three children. 16. I heard he was climbing with Jim Wickwire. So how many people have died climbing with old Wick? Sounds like a death nail to rope up with him, even to cross a Seattle City street.
  17. The NTSB posting of HOMER's crash. Pilot error! Homer's Alaska crash Bad luck twice.......

  21. Bummer! That route is way under-rated this time of the year. Talk about objective hazards. They mentioned others being hurt. When the rock took the guy out musta taken the others with for a few feet. Wonder if they got out of the area right away or stayed with the guy till help came. Wonder what I would do with rocks coming down like that. Kinda hard to move the body on that route with just three people.
  22. quote: I've never been happier with a sleeping bag before except when my wife shared it with me. Hope it wasn't down, hard to get them wet spots out.
  23. Probably get more funds by moving outa Boulder. How can anyone afford to run an office outa there? That has to eat up a lot of money. I used to live and work there. Got priced outa that town. Up in Squamish the access group (name?) up there puts fliers out on the windshields of cars in the parking lot. Maybe if a few volunteers canvassed the cars in the parking lots more awareness & memeberships would be generated? Kudos on the work! Keep it up.

Obviously you guys don't eat enough HC. HC puts hair on your chest.

    All about GU

That's why BB GU is so good, no caffiene! That crap is bad for you. The only people who eat the caffiene laced GU are those that climb routes to tame to keep'em awake!!!!
