  1. I know this is the wrong place but why not try. Looks like it's snowing shit tons up in the mountains (down to Moraine Lake almost) so looking for someone to do sport stuff or a route on Yam (Kahl Wall, maybe) if it's not snow plastered as well. Based out of Calgary for the weekend but partner has stuff going on in town.
  2. Just curious how this contrasts with GTNP where, save for the on-mountain waste removal program they bagged a few years back, a solid climbing program and incredibly helpful climbing rangers all come included with the price of admission - no climbing fee required. And poo bags are still handed out freely.
  3. Looking for partner 7/13 and 7/14 to do something in the mountains somewhere not to to far from Oregon. Sorry Washington climbers, can't afford the gas to get get up there solo, but could go to the Stuart Range with someone from nearby. I could also do 2 days at Beacon and just camp somewhere out there. Any other ideas?
  4. Does anyone out there know if you can get standard-type isobutane gas canisters that would work with a MSR Pocket Rocket?. . . or are the Gaz-Bluet formated canisters the only one's I'll be able to find in Chamonix? Would I be better off to just clean the poo out of my Wisperlight and fuel bottle instead? Help - I leave Monday.
  5. Yeah, I climb that thing after work during the powpow season. It's like, soooo sick. I think the Wilson-Love on the Sail is hardest 5.8 anywhere.
  6. Was up there two weekends ago - if any body is still interested it what it was like before the Warm Spell, I'm willing to share. But only if . .
  7. Climb: Tour de Hood-Sandy Glacier Headwall to Cooper Spur Ski Descent Date of Climb: 5/10/2006 Trip Report: Been thinking about linking this one up after climbing the Leuthold a few weekends ago and skiing the West Crater. T-Line departure at 5:25 with zero wind at the parking lot - good sign. Quick skin up to Illuination Saddle where skins were ripped, helmet donned, and icy traverse made (with small bergshrund air to boot) to gain the Sandy via the Reid and Yocum Ridge. This was probably the most heads up part of today's lap and made me wish my Whippet didn't get stolen from my garage in SLC this winter. Climbing with skis on pack by 7:45ish. Somewhat variable conditions on the Sandy made for fairly quick climbing with some exceptions. New snow or wind or or the combination of the two had filled in much of the old runnels with calf deep snow, some of which had crusted over. Also ran a somewhat erratic course to get as much coverage from the small rock bands that dot the Sandy. Lots of ice chunks and a few rocks, mostly off the Cathedral Ridge side. I was kind of surprised by this as I expected to see more shit come off the Yocum since it was getting a little sun. Headwall top-out at 9:15 or so and summit around 10:00 Well, time to go down. But it was way to early to ski the rime chunks of the West Crater and the Cooper didn't seem ridiculously warm yet. A few turns to that rocky point where you can look down the east and north sides of the spur yielded a good look at a fine line that was way less steep and exposed than I had expected Ski cuts got the surface mush to slide a bit and some fine corn was skied. Did a big traverse across the Newton-Clark, through the White River drainage, and down some sick groomer corn to T-Line. Driving out of there by 11:00. Score another for skiing down after climbing up. With temps like todays and marginal, high cloud cover (which felt like it was keeping the snow just a little cooler than it would've been with totally clear skies), the Cooper would have been just right at about 9:00 - i.e. no ski cuts required. Sorry no pics - no camera. Final note: if this itinerary sounds like your idea of a good time, give me a holler. I don't need to do this stuff by myself all the time.
  8. Hey - looking to get out locally or not so locally thurs and fri to get some full days in. However I can't meet anybody anywhere beyond Portland since an uninsured driver hit my truck something fierce. Have transport to meet at local PDX crags.
  9. Yeah, whatever, made you look. Anybody have some notion of the timing needed to ski the Cooper Spur right now? Just rolled into Portland from Utah and have no idea (insert Utah joke here) what conditions are like - only that there is a big mountain just east of here that has lots of snow on it. It boils down to the idea of not wanting to get up to the summit at dawn and having to wait for hours on the summit for things to soften up - or maybe it never gets that warm up therethis time of year, WTF do I know? Also wondering how far up the road (Cloud Cap Rd?) you can drive.
  10. Hey - coming to Oregon to hang out with g.f. for a week Looking for partners to do anything around town (Hood included, but not go out of town, Oct. 25, 26, 27. PM with #
  11. Finally mustered enough motivation to call the L-Worth ranger station. The snow from last week didn't stick around for the most part, shady north faces probably exlcuded though, and it had started snowing again "up there" (however high that is I couldn't get them to say) this morning. Any better resources out there?
  12. in the Stuart range in the past weeks? I know a few inches fell where I was working in the Sawtooths, but could use some local info on snow amounts and elevations.
  13. Well , here it goes . . Looking for a competent partner with the following qualities: - lead solid 5.9 - not new to multi-pitch/alpine - does not need to stop that much - thinks it a great idea to link multiple grade III's if time/weather permit Solo while partner instructs O.B. course in Canada. Not too particular about routes, but no cragging or 5.10 or higher due to blown ring finger tendon. Should be based out of friend's place in Mazama after this weekend. PM me if you're serious about getting after it, have some time off, and don't feel like soloing a lap on some mid-5th route you do all the time. Weather looks good for the next week or so, but that doesn't mean shit up here does it?
  14. Just wondering if anybody out there skied in the Sisters this past weekend. Curious (but not bi) about the snow coverage and quality (dirty, clean, cupped), esp on N Sister, the Villard Gl. I think, and the Prouty on South. Thanks in advance.
  15. Hey there. It's, like, I'm on this road trip from Utah (wasting the $$ made during the Olympics), but the wx blows just about everywhere so I'm holed up in Bend for a while. Need partners, any day of week, for anything fun that involves going up and down, ski descents a plus. Find me at the following.lix@eforu.com" target="_blank
