  1. I am 43 in very good shape and recently finished series of classes and field trips covering everything from knots to rock, snow and glaciers, crevasse rescue etc. I did the tooth last wed. and had a blast I want to do more but need partners . Wife uses car for work but will cover gas generously if you don't mind driving. Got weathered out on my second trip to rainier last weekend and plan to go in a couple of weeks. I live in factoria (425) 603-1406
  2. I suppose your right I apologize if I offended anybody("D") I've been in a piss poor mood since I got turned around on Rainier by the weather (and out-voted)Sat A.M.I now have medical insurance and will be able to see that therapist my wife wants me to see. Anybody want to take an inspired, recently trained, good shape ,novice climber on the tooth or a reasonable route on guye peak. I did the tooth last week and was told I did well . I want to do more and become a better climber and get involved with this community (outside the mountaineers organization)>>>>>Dan
  3. Once again"d" you misread what I said [This message has been edited by Dan Larson (edited 06-11-2001).]

  5. Thanks for the warning but Guye peak is listed as a basic climb , one that basic students use for credit in the course .

  7. Hey, I just finished a series of classes and field trips with the seattle mountaineers . Now that that is over I never want to deal with those folks again. Last Wed. I had my first official rock climb "The Tooth" out by Snoqualmie Pass , Maybe you have heard of it ?I did good and really want to climb more than ever now. This weekend I'm doing Rainier. When I get back I will need to hook up with climbing partners who can lead on rock , Interested .......P.S. I live in Factoria, wife uses car for work but I will cover gas and lunch.
  8. Richard , Dan L. again since I last wrote I finished those classes and field trips and followed on the "Tooth" I know it is a basic climb but I really changed my mind about rock . I plan on getting into it as much as glaciers and would like to keep getting experience . Interested in Guye Peak or any other peaks at that level? . P.S. The tooth wasn't that much of a challenge I'm ready to try more .......Dan

  10. I appreciate your concern three person came pretty easy to me and I've been practicing 2 person. I am of above average intelligence and I think I'll pass on the cheat notes .Who are you climbing with anyway .Common sense, practice and a little finess will take me a long ways.
  11. I just finished the mountaineers basic course and they only teach team methods. The subject of 2-person teams seems to be one of those learn on your own subjects.
  12. Any suggestions for getting the initial anchor in with difficult snow. I'm thinking about bringing a hammer with me , and hanging it off my harness (yes I'm new ) It seems like the only logical thing to do to me.Hate to leave my partner hanging because I wasn't fully prepared any suggestions?
  13. when setting up the initial anchor on a 2 person team I saw a step saver in the book. When you hook up the prusik to the initial anchor use your texas prusiks they are already hooked up.Any body have any step savers or helpful hints to make setting up the anchors a little easier ( I didn't buy the book just glanced at it in REI.
  14. Your right L.B. my sense of humor is a little inconsistant.Thank you for the tips especially about the BIG holes.

    Greed

I figure if your arrogant enough to think people are crowding your mountain you should be good enough to do the routes that the masses don't do.I am a novice and it will be a happy day when I progress past Ingraham and emmons to the Willis wall or some other technical route. Until then .....CALLING #89 it's your turn to enter the cowlitz glacier.
  20. I will finish the mountaineers basic climbing course this weekend and would like to hook up with more experienced climbers .classes and field trips included knots , belay, rock1, rock2. snow 1, snow2, glacier travel and crevasse rescue. 22. Hey Richard, I'm just finishing the mountaineers basic climbing course My only rock experience is Rock1-/ Rock 2 top roped 5.6 stuff and the basics of cleaning a pitch my real interest however is glaciers . Are you interested in showing the ropes to an apprentice 43 years old in very good shape in rock climbing also looking for partners to do Rainier and other peaks . I want to get into this community and keep learning ..Dan
  23. I got in on that climbing course that you are talking about it is a good course but I don't care for the organization all that much ( a little too militant for me ) The field trips are over after next weekend and I am looking for Rainier Partners . I would be happy to pass on to you the information that I have learned.I'm 43 married 2 kids and I am in good shape for climbing . Lets practice and do Rainier.
