  1. Ok one run for the Flip Flop team! Quest accepted Quest accomplished. Response...its ok I dont care! PP
  2. By the way he wasnt just killed he was ritually slaughtered in a performance.
  3. Chucks on a roll today! I ask yourself the following if you were captured by Islamic militants and you were jewish and had Israeli stamps on your passport would you think 1 I wish I didnt have that damn passport with me or 2 Heck it doesn't matter. PP
  4. Sadly if you look at the context of his comments it becomes obvious that kerry has in fact flipped on this issue. His years in the senate have improved his ability to obfuscate and say things with a conviction and a vagueness that defies belief. (compare his recent coments to his younger days) You might have a point with your "1 vote loss" theory, however, in this case I think you are simply able to sustain an incredibly high volume of cognative dissonance.
  5. He absolutely has been flip flopping on outsourcing. ALso read my posts about his outright lies concerning making Jimmy Carter a mideast envoy. On thing he is consitant on is blaming others! Most notably his speech writers!
  6. Is Smokey on Fire a roof crack at Minni? If so, I heard the same thing about KM.
  7. Anyone else notice how few papaers wrote about Berg being Jewish? Checkout these links: Independent , AP , Yahoo , NYT1 , NYT2 , NYT3 Read this : Nicholas Berg, the American who was filmed being beheaded, had been arrested by Iraqi police earlier and held on suspicion of being a spy because he had a Jewish name and an Israeli stamp in his passport, it has emerged. ... "He said: 'They arrested me because I had a Jewish last name and an Israeli stamp in my passport.' Then the Iraqi police put him with the US military because they thought he was a spy. .... In the Arab world, any indication that someone is a Jew or has links with Israel can be potentially fatal BTW I first heard of the beahing on the DEBKA site before it was on most of the major websites and it mentioned he was Jewish. Odd that in a region where the Israeli/Palestinian Conflict is the biggest news item this is not mentioned. Good reporting? Bad reporting? Biased reporting? PP
  8. Thanks to Bush's most important political asset:,John Kerry, Kerry leads Bush by only 1% in California, a Democratic stronghold. Why? The poll reports "Of Bush voters, 80% say they are voting 'for' Bush. Of Kerry voters, just 35% say they are voting 'for' Kerry. 61% of Kerry voters say they are voting 'against' Bush." link

  11. Here is some price data and pres terms. Kinda boring but since I collected the data I am posting. PP
  12. J_B - No matter how you twist and turn you still can't spin away your faulty thinking. PP
  13. LAnce - I in no way support the torute or mistreatment of prisoners but I do have a question. Why do you think there will be a long term effect for the US. For example exactly what were the repurcussions of this. PP
  14. no peter, the reason i did not answer is because you offered nothing new in your argument. as for me increasing the number of casualties to ~40,000 to include the military: i consider bombing to paste ~30,000 unmotivated, poor-as-dirt individuals wearing uniform to be as much 'collateral damage' of predatorial policies as the killing of civilians. is there any good reason why you would exclude the death of iraqi military from your grim justifications? J_B - Well maybe because the discussion which by the way you brought exlpicitly into the thread was concerned with civilian casualties! Here is a short but cogent media critique. link
  15. Marlet - Do you really expect answer? Notice how he speaks of deceptions but when asked this - I notice now you have changed your reference number to include military personnel. (ie the change from 10k to 40k- both numbers you provided). Since we are discussing “collateral” damage why did it suddenly change? - he was silent. PP
  16. My goal was not to compare various death rates of different options but provide a context for the civilian casualties in the first year of war. I did. That another method of intervention might have had greater effectiveness and cause lower casualties is irrelevant. You were claiming that the civilian death rate for the Iraqi war was not low. Here is what you wrote: >10000 iraqi civilians murdered over the last year is minor? it's when one reads things like this (and the rest of the drivel in that "good short read"), that the extent of deceit becomes obvious I notice now you have changed your reference number to include military personnel. (ie the change from 10k to 40k- both numbers you provided). Since we are discussing “collateral” damage why did it suddenly change? Perhaps you are confused. Perhaps it is deliberate. Either way I will assume your ultimate motivations are good. Joshk - I agree but J-B accepted them! PP
  17. Again you are simply incorrect. My post neither supported neither the war or sanctions. What it did show was the estimates of the number of civilians killed by two different kinds of interventions. The simple and true fact is that 10k+ in civilians killed is extremely low for such a military action. Your rejoinder was simply not supported by the facts but did serve your purpose of showing all those who disagree with you as morally bankrupt. PP
  18. Oil
  19. I say that Jim and J_B continuously attack people usually by claiming some immoral motivation to their actions. I would note how J_B just a few posts ago was claiming how noble his motivations were. Here is what J_B wrote: "i think this year we'll do a lot better, instead of killing 160,000 people, we'll kill only ~40,000 (including the iraqi military)" it's really infortunate that your only perpective is how many people you ought to kill this year to attain your objectives. That my only perspective is on tallying up how many people I ought to kill to achieve my objectives - where is the support for this? Please show me. It is simply bullshit. Many times he has claimed that my motivations in supporting the Iraq war are simply economic - ie I want cheap oil. Not only am I willing to kill non Americans but he has claimed I am willing to send off the youngsters of America and get them killed for monetary benefits. I will donate $100 to the cause of your choice if you can find substantiation of that claim. You won't be able to. He is simply attacking the person. This I believe is contemptable.
  20. Well I guess that's as close as J_B can come to admiting the civilian casualties were indeed low for such a war. But notice how he starts a crazy attack on my person. Sad really.
  21. Hmmm predatory forgeign policy? Ever heard of Pax Romana?
  22. J_B – Have you no shame! In 1991 the Iraq news agency claimed that 1.6 million Iraqis died because of the sanctions. That’s 160,000 per year. 41% of these were children. During the first year of the war you claim a bit over 10,000 casualties. By the way Kling is hardly a neocon. Whatever it is you are smoking, it must be good. PP
  23. John Kerry was too busy campaigning to cast the single additional vote necessary for the Senate to approve the extension of expiring unemployment benefits. Because Kerry didn't show up an vote "yes," the measure failed by one vote. Extension of unemployment benefits is seen by Democrats as a cornerstone of progressive federal government response to recession. In a New York Times column just two months ago, Paul Krugman blasted Bush for having "rejected" such a measure. In fact, Bush endorsed it. It's Krugman's boy Kerry who has "rejected" it Related link is here Kerry either knew and didn't care about the vote or his friend sin WA like him so much they left him out of the loop.
  24. good short read link
  25. Question: If releasing the pictures causes the prisoners humiliation and thus is contrary to the convention, is allowing the publication of these pictures by a US company tantamount to the same thing? For example, if the prisoners were being march from point a to pint b ( in the US) the US would have the obligation to prevent its citizens from attacking the prisoners as they marched. How is allowing the publication of the pictures any different? Chances are a young man entering the US prison system will be raped within 48 hrs. Crimes against criminals are still crimes. By the way how often have the prison pictures been on the front page? The tv networks stopped showing video of people jumping/falling from the WTC almost immediately.
