Air Kerry: Nonunion and previously Air Bush A basic fact of Democratic Party politics is that you look for the union label before buying any service or good. So it should come as no surprise that unions representing airline workers are miffed that John Kerry's campaign is using a nonunion campaign jet. But labor insiders tell us that it's not the senator's fault. Commercial carriers, it seems, can't supply what he needs, largely because of costs. Paul Hallisay, political director of the Airline Pilots Association, says he has even contacted airline CEOs to help, but no luck yet. "The Kerry campaign has done everything they can do to secure a union airline," he says. Hallisay, whose union is likely to endorse Kerry next month, concedes that no union label is a problem, especially for the AFL-CIO. "We would like to see him flying a union carrier, but we're workers and we're not management and we cannot dictate procurement policy to the airlines," he says. Then there's the problem with the charter broker Kerry uses. It's Air Charter Team, which brags that "our most notable client was U.S. President George W. Bush during the 2000 campaign." link

The footholds are greasey slimey pebbles! And RumR I think the crux section is 12' from the boulder! Those moves up the vertical edges were impossible even cheating. Maybe I need stronger belayers to pull more of my weight

Depending on what time you mean Arabs did exist but not as a great power. Turkey if you are talking % of current country was not Byzantine. By then Byzantium's control for some time was quite limited. By the way the darkness of the Middle Ages was not as dark as imagined.
-
Mal Con - I would point out two things. I wrote Arab not Middle East and I wrote culture. Perhaps a better example would be Turkey - hey guess what a democracy! Don't confuse what I said with what Norman replied to. By the way Norman, if I remember correctly much of Arab developments in mathematics was developed from Indian advances. (Concept of zero for one thing, I think the arabs rejected negative numbers but I could be wrong.) This in no way reduces any of their advances. The one thing Marx did get right was that history was not made by great men - we are all standing on the shoulders of giants.

PP Quote from the top of this thread: The Arab World, while rightly credited for its scholarship in the middle ages, never experienced the same domination by Greek culture. Think about that while you read this: Norman at first I thought your reply was serious then I realized it was comedy as a fine art.

The obvious … and the true has got to be defended. Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth's center. … If that is granted, all else follows." George Orwell, 1984 Fouad Ajami, a professor of Middle Eastern studies at Johns Hopkins University, said part of political Islam's antimodern approach was a rejection of the Western scientific method. So when some Islamists declared, for instance, that al Qaeda caused this summer's blackout on the East Coast, that could be accepted without any proof..."When there is a break in cause and effect," Mr. Ajami said, "it's easy to sell these views of the world." NYT 10/26/03 The Arab World, while rightly credited for its scholarship in the middle ages, never experienced the same domination by Greek culture. Think about that while you read this: Read & Weep

Sorry to rain on your parade of patriotism here, but the actual fact is that I don't think we actually know whether patriotism was his reason for signing up. It would seem "obvious," perhaps, but people have lots of reasons for doing what they do and the "obvious" one is not always the correct one. Mattp - See here for some more insight The obvious reason for your post would seem to be helping us think better but perhaps there is something deeper going on. I am sure there are a myriad of reasons anyone does anything. PP

DPS - Everyone has made clear that this death is not made more "sad" because of his status. You certainly understand this yet you continue to try to 'cause a controversy. My suggestion would be leave it alone. Cheers, PP

Hey Patrick check out the post above yours and no one said it was. Someone dies in a traffic accident in Iowa and we know nothing of it. A cc.com poster dies and we post it. Why? because we have a connection with him.
-
He was an extraordinary man, however, I bet there are thousands like him over there right now that we have no connection too.

Eric - Have you been to Bobs and the higher cliffs? Without a doubt they have some great views plus, at least for me, the rock is much better.

Actually CBS many have argued insider trading laws are not helpful at all. Full prompt open disclosure of all activity a la the donation site would solve most problems.

..sure I'll walk in line and follow this man anywhere. He is so much better than we are. Several of George Bush's closest advisors are from racial minorities. John Kerry per CNN : "Unlike Al Gore whose campaign manager, political director and finance director were African-American, the Kerry campaign, as of yet, has no one of color in the innermost circle, including Kerry campaign manager, campaign chairperson, media adviser, policy director, foreign policy adviser, general election manager, convention planner, national finance chairman, and head of VP search team. That's an odd position for a campaign that will probably rely on African-Americans and Hispanics for one in four of their general election votes and the crucial margin of difference in battleground states like Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio. La Opinion Spanish Link but it will be obvious : A new survey indicates a tie in the support of Hispanic voters between republican president George W. Bush and the democratic challenger John Kerry, with 46% for each one. Between all voters, Kerry took an advantage of 49% against 48%. Pew Hispanic Center : Foreign-born Latinos give President Bush higher approval ratings (59%) than the native born (42%).

TS Link "When your response to everything that is wrong with the world is to say, “there ought to be a law,” you are saying that you hold freedom very cheap."

That's what I meant to say! The unceretainty is if that is what everyone else meant to say!

I have taken the routes determined to be the most accurately rated in the NW ( ) and created the following polls so that they can be compared to some of the classic 5.9s in North America! Although people will spray anyway – please only respond if you have actually climbed the routes being compared.
-
Attached is a summary of the poll at 9am this morning. I calculated the rating by assigning a value to each poll option as follows: 5.8 =8, 5.9=9, 5.10a=10, 5.10b=11. I then multiplied the number of votes for each option by the option’s assigned values. Summed the results and divided by the total number of votes. Again I ignored the fifth option. The most accurately rated route according to the calculation method is the Fun 5.9 at Royal Columns. (Check out the almost perfect bell curve) Since the actual identity of this route is uncertain I give the runner up the title: Moonshine Dihedral at Smith! Attacked from a different angle the route with the greatest number of respondents agreeing with the guidebook rating is Outerspace! What’s amazing is how diverse the opinions turned out to be. PP
