JoshK
Current snowpack data from 1/15 http://www.seawfo.noaa.gov/products/CLISNO Well, on the good side, at least it isn't 1981
rr666
What did people do in '81? Can you imagine the bitching about the eletricity back then. oh wait, not many people lived up here, and we didn't care about salmon back then.
obsydian
Maybe global warming peaked in '81?
JoshK
Hmm...seems like it's peaking this year. fucking SUVS
ChrisT
I can't remember a winter as mild as this since '92, our first year in the PNW. But we still have February...
JoshK
I remember from about 85 to 81 there was always at least one big snowstorm a year that dumped 9" + in the seattle area. since then there hasn't really been once that dumped more than 2 or 3 inches. sux... obsydian
February is always nice around here, hmm...kind of like last weekend
JoshK
a few years ago during the big year mt baker got more snow in february than any colorado resort got all year, and more than most average every year. PNW still rocks...but we gotta take our shitty years like everybody else. at least a shitty year around here is still 70" of base instead of 12"....... ChrisT
It seems that Feb is often colder than Jan. I remember snow in the city as late as March 1 and the ski resorts were already closed!
obsydian
I look at it this way.. Lots of snow, will be able to traverse through those tough bushwaking routes on easy snow in June, no snow, the rock routes open up early...so about anything is cool
ChrisT
that's a good way to look at it. But what about Mt. Hood? I don't want to get swallowed by a crevice like those climbers last year. Oh when, pray tell, shall I climb it?
ChrisT
duh! I think I just answered my own question!
catbirdseat
I can't remember a winter as mild as this since '92, our first year in the PNW. But we still have February... Our first year in the PNW was 1990 and it was a cold, cold year. We had more than a week of 12 degree F lows at night with 20 degree F highs in the day. I lost several expensive orchid plants in my greenhouse that year because the heater couldn't keep the temperature above freezing.
