Jacob Tafejian Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) I just moved to Bellingham to go to school and I would like to take advantage of the North CAscades. Duh. I only have a set of nuts and 1 cam, but I have a little snow gear and a rope. I have some experience with Trad but I've only lead a few times, and have yet to take a fall on my own placements. I am just wondering if any of you could make some good suggestions for alpine routes around 5.7 (or up to 5.10 if you wanna take me with you haha) or easy snow routes, even just sport crags. I've looked around of course but it'd be cool to get first hand recommendations. Thanks a lot Edited September 28, 2013 by Jacob Tafejian Quote

genepires Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The Renton granite crag is a little bit of a drive for you but worth checking out. renton granite is a inside joke here so don't go looking for it. if you are not a solid trad climber, I would be hesitant to go alpine rock climbing for numerous reasons. Being in bellingham, you will get plenty of opportunities to go cragging at squamish and erie. (weather permitting) Go there, set up topropes and do laps on single pith climbs. erie if you have a foul forecast in squamish or if you have a short day available. Squamish for full day or weekend with a good weather forecast. choose squamish over erie. get real comfortable with rock climbing then hit up the alpine terrain. Quote
genepires Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 a lot of our alpine routes will be covered in snow right now. The tooth south face (snoq pass) will be a good intro to alpine rock. It should be snow free before winter hits in but after november, it will be a wintery climb. snow climbs near bellingham generally means ski mountaineering or snowshoeing. Quote

Jacob Tafejian Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Thanks. I've heard Mount Erie is cool and I've been to Squamish. I'll definitely take advantage of the ski mountaineering, thank you Quote
