siwithington Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Hi I am after some advice on the Petzl Lynx crampon, when paired up with the Scarpa Jorasses Pro GTX. With the Lynx configured with dual front-points, the points 'point' slightly inward when fixed to the boots. I am wondering whether this is an intentional design feature of the Lynx in this configuration, which will benefit me when climbing, or whether I need to look at swapping the link bars to ensure that the front-points face perfectly forward. Any advice would be great. Cheers, Si Quote
RafalA Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 The Lynx are designed asymmetrically to follow the curve of the boot sole. Try them as they are now - you might need to adjust your kick a bit, but once you get used to it, they are more solid and easier to kick with than crampons where the points go straight. Quote
CaleHoopes Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 There are adjustments on the lynx for sure to point them in, straightforward and out. I know most of us throw out the manual (little fold up foreign language rosetta stone with warning icons), but in this case, the Lynx was super helpful. The manual shows three modes you can configure. If you're climbing ice, however, you need to find what works for you. Mine came pointed "in" like you are stating - I kept it that way. Feels really weird to look at when you put them on... climbs water ice amazingly. Really good stuff! Quote
Woodcutter Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Flip the bars over, sorts it all out. I did email PEtzl to ask if this was safe and they did reply and stated that they were happy with this solution. I have the very same boots & 'pons and now have the front points pointing forward, not stuck out sideways. Sweeeet Quote
Coldfinger Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Did the bar flip with dartwins with good results--the inner frontpoint is now a bit longer but I like that. Quote
