cookiejar
I'm headed to the enchantments this weekend and wonder where the snow level is at right now. Can I get away with a pair of runners and low gaiters approaching from the Snow Lake side? Thanks.
montypiton
word is the upper lakes are still snowed/iced in. two years ago they were still under snow at the end of July. If you're planning to go beyond Snow Lakes, I'd take boots, and either poles or an ice axe. up to Snow Lakes, you'll be okay with tennies. wdietsch
Went in via Nada / Snow Lakes on 6/26 and camped at south end of Snow. Hiked up to Viviane on 6/27 and had lunch at the outlet with 17 goats. Tons of snow up high, Viviane was 90% froze over but that was two weeks ago before all these high temps. Guarantee there is water running over the spillway dam on upper Snow. Not too deep, just don't stop and your feet shouldn't get wet.
cookiejar
Update: we went in 7/14 and 7/15 via Aasgard pass. It was mostly snow free to the pass. There was still tons of snow up there though. Perfection Lake was mostly covered by snow and ice. Prusik Pass was snow covered. I wore only approach shoes (not water proof) with a pair of low gaiters. They got a little wet but it was bearable.
