Hello,

I hope I'm in the right forum...

I'm looking into taking 4 days and heading up to Mazama at the end of June. I've never been there, but have heard that the rock climbing and cycling ( road and mountain) is good fun. I'm looking for any tips for the area, including preferred campgrounds, and also any folks who would care to show me around the crag, and even a bike ride or two.

Thanks!

The west/east Chewuch loop is a great cycle. As for climbing, there are a lot of fun routes at Funrock and the surrounding areas. You can also link a cool road ride up the west chewuch with some cool climbing.

Email me at methowrepairs@yahoo.com and I can give you more specifics.

Goat Wall's Prime Rib is reputedly the longest easy sport climb in the nation and worth doing if you are in the area. 11 pitches up to 5.9, a single 60m rope will get you down. We took about 15 draws and that was plenty.

Prime rib is definitely a fun route.

I would venture to say that I felt there was only one 5.9 move on the whole route.

I have heard you can drop a bike off on a road near the top and save yourself the raps, which sounds like it would be fun.

If your looking for mountain biking:

Lightening Creek, Pipestone Canyon, and the Re-routed Buck Mt.

are all nice. You can check in with Joe @ Methow Cycle for any updates on Buck Mt as they did a reroute due to logging.
