mountainsandsound Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Anyone have any recent pics or reports from Silver Star? Wondering how much snow might be on the summit. The big warm up this weekend makes me a bit wary. Quote
jordansahls Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Not really recent, but I was up there 3 weeks ago. There was still a lot of snow down low. I would expect that the lower elevation snow is drying up fast. If you're skiing you should be able to make it down to the basin at the head of Silverstar creek. Not sure about how far you can make it via burgundy col. If that fails you can always try for Black peak, which is always a good ski this time of year (this is assuming that you're skiing). Quote
Devin27 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 It's a pretty dicey weekend to be out in avalanche terrain. NWAC has a special report out that basically says stay home or go rock climbing Quote

A good weekend to let the snow stabilize, and a good weekend to practice crevasse rescue at the Mt. Baker ski area. Quote
Jason4 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I was up near Rainy Lake on Saturday and the snow was very skiable and we didn't have any unexpected stability issues. The top 4" or so was sliding loose, wet, slow, and loud. As long as my partner and I didn't ski above each other then we both felt safe. We were able to ski from Maple Pass all the way to the highway with just one walk across a lake and one around a water fall on the creek that drains from Lake Ann. Quote
