Vernman23 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Headed off to Bozeman area for thanksgiving. First time going there and was wondering what are some good beginner routes to get on WI3-4 that should be in. Thanks Quote
keenwesh Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Over easy is a good WI3 warmup and right next to it is curtains at WI4, both are in. G1 is always good but you'll be sharing the cliff. Quote
Vernman23 Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Dave, is there any where in town where I can pick up a copy? Quote
DRep Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) In Seattle area, I think Marmot in Bellevue has it. In Bozeman Northern Lights on Babcock Ave will definitely have it. Should be a fun time for you. Hyalite is overwhelming because of the concentration of quality climbable ice! Enjoy! Edited November 22, 2011 by DRep Quote
Patrix Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Was just in Hyalite a week and a half ago. Genesis 1 is a good choice if you get a late start. It's only about 15 minuetes form the parking lot and most of the routes can be top roped. WI3-WI4 Twin Falls was also in and much fatter than G1. Definitely worth the hour or so hike. Mostly WI3. Check out this page for up to date conditions. http://montanaice.com/forum/ice-conditions/hyalite Edited November 22, 2011 by Patrix Quote
p_tapley Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I'd be very mindful of avy conditions if you head toward over easy or anything else in that sort of setting. we currently have a few inches of loose facets sitting on the ground with considerable load on top. add to that a very significant wind event that is happening and things are sure to get dodgy. you should check out the un-named wall and the nearby elevator shaft for a few options in that range.
