Gregory.S. Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Anybody have any experiences there? I am thinking about checking it out during the summer. Quote
Jason4 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I've searched here and found lots of info, it sounds like the main route is a chossy scramble that can be done pretty quickly from the parking lot at Twin Lakes. I'm eyeing it for a winter ascent starting from the look out on Winchester. Quote
Gregory.S. Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 That is what I had thought about doing too! I was going to go up to winchester to take a look at larrabee but our car didnt make it more than a mile at the start of the forest road until our car couldnt make. We ended up having to hike (4?)miles to the parking lot. Thenthe 2.5 mile road to the trail head. By the time we got to the TH it was pretty late and we were tired and decided to head back. Quote
Tyson.g Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 In the Winter - Take a high clearance 4x4 with chains! If you can make it off the 530 highway across the plow bank give it a go. I believe I was the last vehicle up last year in November and if it was not for my iron nerve and unsurpassed driving skills we would not have made it. My buddy went in the ditch with his jeep and there are many place on that road you would not want to come off! Other than the shit stain on my passenger seat left by my lily livered co pilot it was a piece of cake. Great spot in the Winter - Just be sure to follow the RULES if staying in the lookout. Quote
Jason4 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) I've gotten good beta that Twin Lakes can be accessed by snowmobile early in the season before avy danger gets too high. That was our plan and how I know it's been done before. Doing it that way really doesn't require an overnight stay at the look out but it sure would be a great place to spend an evening. Tyson.g Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Snowmobile is the ticket for sure - Especially if you have a tow rope and can ski up behind. Pretty fun. If you are going up it seems a shame NOT to spend a night up there. It is sweet! There is a great TR on here. (last year?) Quote
