If I had to guess, I'd say you were standing on St Helens looking at Adams, hence those summit rocks were not in that configuration before May 18th, 1980. The black rocks are eruptive products 1914-1915. I would have waited at least a couple of days to climb as they were still hot enough to scald for a few days after the eruption (plus a few plinian eruptions that would, well hurt). Quote
