As it turns out, the two US Navy pilots who bombed the Canadians near Kandahar were taking prescribed "go pills". It's acceptable military practice, I guess (http://www.safetycenter.navy.mil/aviation/aeromedical/downloads/performancemanual.pdf see page 8).
