JessicaP Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I was hoping to climb South Sister under the light of the full moon Aug 13, 2011. Hit the trail at midnight, summit by dawn. Last week the ranger station told me there was still 3 to 10ft of snow, trail markers would be buried, suncupping the size of cars. I've never climbed it (or any mountain for that matter). Has anyone been recently to report if it's do-able? If so, anyone want to join me? Thanks! Quote
Water Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 my buddy went up with his wife this past weekend http://loomisadventures.com/blog/climbing-south-sister-oregon Quote
devan Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Anyone know more recent activity in August? The snow still level still at about 6000 feet? Are the camp spots at Lewis glacier and the summit still under complete snow? Quote
hippos_are_evil Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I went up last Saturday (20th) and the trail is 99% snow free, just a few sections of walking over snow, nothing steep. The lake in the crater is still covered in snow, as is most of the crater itself, but the ridge is all snow free. One of the campsites/windbreaks is clear of snow on the ridge. Quote
devan Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Exactly the info I wanted. Thanks a bunch!! Quote
