chris54 Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Im wondering what is a rock solid site to look up weather and avalanche condition. I climb mostly in Oregon and southern Washington. Thanks Quote
Le Piston Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Any forecast is just that...an educated estimate, but I use NOAA Weather for weather forecasts, and have a fair amount of faith in their accuracy. I don't think it covers all of Oregon, but Norhwest Weather and Avalanche Center has good info on avalanche conditions and snowpack analysis...but again it is general info and no substitute for good on-site judgement. I'm sure there are other sources out there (especially for Oregon), but hope this helps. Cheers! Quote
AlpineK Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 NWAC is closed for the season. They stop posting regular avalanche risk assessments in April. If there is a major event or change in conditions you might get a bulletin, but that's a long shot. NOAA is a great source of information right now. Quote
RaisedByPikas Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 And there is no such thing as rock solid avalanche forecasting. Quote
chris54 Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Thanks for the info guys Note: I said rock solid site. Meaning a website that up dates every day. I've been using the above sites just wanted to see if there were any other popular sites out there. Thanks again. Quote
