Tyson.g Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Was looking to do a little goat sacrifice this past weekend and after guiding a couple of foreign blokes up the Eight Mile Buttress and sending them off toward Memorial Buttress I looked for the Crystal Cave shown in Viktors new book. I did not find it.......anyone been there? Pointers on locating it? Quote
Dannible Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 It's just a few minutes above the upper 8 mile crags in the drainage to the east as far as I can remember. Near a little stream this early in the year. It's not as cool as I hoped it would be. Wide but not deep. Quote
genepires Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 (edited) need to recharge your shakra stones? I think your aura needs to be recharged at shasta, the center of the spiritual universe. Or maybe south central idaho. you dirty stinky hippie. Edited April 25, 2011 by genepires Quote
Tyson.g Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Sounds like jealousy from a parade watcher to me Gene. I do think you maybe correct however. Thanks Dannible - If you were at the top of upper 8 mile buttress (stump route), would the cave be up and to climbers right? I know I have been to cave in that direction but we always called it the wind cave. Could be the same one? Quote
Drederek Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Straight up the hill from stones throw, you'll eventually start to see large bits of quartz in the mix. Follow these up past scrubbed lines on either side of the gully to the source. It was very windy the day we hiked up there and the creek was frozen. Quote
Dannible Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Yeah, from the top of middle 8 mile we headed up to Buzzbomb, and followed a ledge system around the corner and up just a bit to the cave route. Lots of ticks in the spring as I recall. Quote
Tyson.g Posted April 26, 2011 Author Posted April 26, 2011 Ah, then it seems I have been there before. I had never seen it from the angle shown in the new book. It looks alot more impressive in the photo. Glad I did not continue up with bivy gear as planned or my buddy and I would have been sorely dissapointed. I ended up hiking around to climbers left and up some gullys arond the toe of the upper crag and then up some steep gullys around the backside and up and right. Cool and interesting stuff back around those parts. Interesting to see the drainage that caused the slide and all the associated debris and scoured land up high. Quote
