Lucky Larry Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Current NPR News: The state of the union is the citizens fault because we elected the government that brought it to us. It's true; we voted for them, they brought us WMD and war, they passed the legislation for the Commodities Futures Modernization act 2000, they bailed out the banks; and it's the peoples fault. Whoa, good thing the Republic is handling the Peoples Affairs so well. The peace of mind this 'news' brings me is overwhelming. It's good to know that the unconventional wisdom holds the people responsible and not the governments. It's not the first time I have heard this 'aired' on NPR. Can't say I want to rally for them. Lucky Larry Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) Fair enough; all my desires have been my own undoing. And it was my training, or lack of, that have lead me to what I am. The Roman philosopher Seneca recognized the progress of knowledge, but he did not expect from it any improvement in the world, because any advance in the arts and inventions promotes deterioration by ministering to luxury and vice. In Prison Interview, Madoff Says Banks ‘Had to Know’ MR. Madoff: He did not assert that any specific bank or fund knew about or was an accomplice in his Ponzi scheme, which lasted at least 16 years and consumed about $20 billion in lost cash and almost $65 billion in paper wealth. Rather, he cited a failure to conduct normal scrutiny. Edited February 16, 2011 by Lucky Larry Quote
