xxtinguish Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Climbing in May. Does anyone have some valuable info and possible photos of your trip. Thanks Quote
Alasdair Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 yep photos are here... http://alasdairturner.blogspot.com/2009/11/mt-foraker-sultana-ridge-photos.html Quote
Alex Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 What are you looking for exactly? Aside from Al's TR, the route is covered extensively in several books. I've gone about half way. Quote
xxtinguish Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Alasdair, thanks for the blogspot photos. They'll help immensely. Quote
xxtinguish Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Alex, thanks for the response. I've already read the section from Alaska Climbing. Do you suggest any particular book? Thanks Quote
Alex Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 When I tried it I was using Watermans's book. I don't think the books will matter that much, what will matter is your fitness and the weather you get. Sultana is a long route and you'll need to carry a fair amount of stuff and still move fast with it. Quote
DPS Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I think Waterman's book is a beautiful, historic look at the Alaska Range climbs but the newer guide books by Coombs and Puryear are much more accurate and current. Quote
xxtinguish Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Alex and DPS, thanks. I just ordered Alaska Range climbs as we speak and Puryear was definitely a good start. I've been up Denali twice and wanted a change of scenery. In this case more likely more severe weather. Quote
