bush-in-sky Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 A friend and I climbed Stuart this past weekend and apparently did not descend the Cascadian Couloir as planned. Here's our track on the descent - I think we were in Ulrich's Couloir - is that right? Just looking to avoid the same mistake the next time I'm up there in poor visibility. Thanks. genepires Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 looks like ulrichs. I would be impressed if people actually get in cascadian without coming up it once. the top is confusing even in good weather. Quote
bush-in-sky Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 Thanks for the confirmation - added a bit more time and effort to an already long weekend, but all in all worked out fine. Quote
boadman Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 To get to the cascadian, you traverse over the ridge to the right of your blue descent line. The ridge culminates in the false summit We didn't find it difficult to locate, but I'd talked to several people about it before we went up there. Quote

Once on the summit the only beta you need to not wind up in Ulrich's is that you don't go down the first couloir you see, you need to traverse around the false summit before descending. Quote
bush-in-sky Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 Yea, we had that beta and thought we had passed the first couloir before descending into what we thought was the second. But since we couldn't actually see the couloirs, we ended up making that mistake. Here was the extent of our visibility: Quote
