Kimmo Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I posted this in the Oly peninsula section too, but: Anyone know about the rock climbing around Port Angeles? I remember hearing about some sport climbing right out of town.... Quote
ryanb Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I've met some climbers from there in Leavenworth, they mostly climbed at the Elwha wall which is steep sandstone sport crag accessed by walking across the (to be removed) Elwha dam. The new olympic climbers guide covers that crag and a few other developing areas...pictures make it look pretty cool. Quote
Sherri Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 ... they mostly climbed at the Elwha wall which is steep sandstone sport crag accessed by walking across the (to be removed) Elwha dam. A lot of pumpy bolted routes; makes for a good workout right next to the river. Approach: park at the dam and walk across the bridge. 2min. You can grab a copy of the guidebook at Port Book and News in town. Quote
Kimmo Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 cool, thanks. we're gonna be over there for a couple of days, so i'm excited to check it out. btw, what's gonna happen to access when the dam gets removed? Quote
Dustin B. Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 the steelhead will come back and you will go swimming? Quote

If you bump into Kevin there(he'll be the guy with the grey beard doing solo laps, making the 5.10's look like .6's.), ask him about the future access. He knows his way around. Quote
Kimmo Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 thanks sherri. we'll be there on a weekday, probably the tuesday after next, so maybe won't be running into anyone.... Quote
