Does the Mt. Rainier area offer any good serac ice climbing like Baker?

Interesting. Can you tell me where you think there is some good Seracing on Mt Rainier that is accesible for a day trip? That would be great.

Im not talking about the whole mountain. Im just looking to hone my skills climbing on some seracs both top roping maybe leading. Doesnt need to be just a day trip. Thanks everyone!

Try the Nisqually Glacier for serac climbing. Lower Ingraham Glacier is not to bad a hike and great crevasse climbing if you don't mind lowering in and climbing out. Pick up the brown Cascade Alpine Guide for more info.

RoklzGud....In my opinion no. I cragged a few days last year on the lower nisqually (only becuase the road to the coleman was closed all summer). The nisqually is abysmal now - 7-8 years ago it was ok. Also, I would not recommend a 4 hour hike up to the Lower Ingraham to be lowered into a crevasse. If you want to be lowered into a crevasse, the Easton can be reached in half the hike. I've spent many days cragging on the Coleman and it is the best place I know in the summer for ease of access. But shhhh....keep it quiet, ok?

Thanks! I spent 2 days on Coleman climbing ice last year it was great but i new and have never climbed ice anywhere else. Thanks Steve, im going to check out that book.

When I was young, the Nisqually was a short day and blew away Baker. Nowdays with global warming, it isn't as good as it used to be.

 

Anyways, go water ice climbing right now.....Unless you are bad ass enough to find and climb in a radical ice cave.

Unfortunately I dont have the ice tools, partners or much experience. They only thing i do have are Sundays... Untill the middle of february when my basketball season is over. Im so excited for that to happen!
