tthirloway Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Has anybody been skiing around the Southern Pickets? Anything good? How's the approach? I was thinking about coming in from Newhalem. Any info would be great. Thanks. Quote
Dan_Miller Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 This nearly three year old report (from Jason Hummel) may be of some assistance. http://www.cascadecrusades.org/SkiMountaineering/westmcmillan/westmcmillan2007/westmacwinter2007.htm Quote
Pete_H Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Tony Bentley and I skiied that same W Mac route a few years ago too. It was fun but not a ton of vertical. Some of the steeper north facing lines like the Dagenhart Glacier look pretty rad, but probably not good until steep skiing season in the spring / early summer. Quote
AllYouCanEat Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Wait for lowwwww snow to get up there. You are pretty much starting from 500 feet (can't remember exactly). You take a turn off a overgrown road and then head straight up, tending slightly climber's left as you get higher, then you hit a pass and drop down to the s pickets. Glad you guys liked that old TR. It was an amazing trip. I want to get back there soon. There's a lot to do out there! Quote
Pete_H Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 That's a sweet pic of Triumph. Do you have any pic's of Despair from the trip? Quote
tthirloway Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Great TR, thanks for the link. Quote
