WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

MOUNT MERU-"THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE": TEAMWORK AND TENACITY

IN THE HIMALAYA

Deep in the Indian Himalaya, 22,000-foot Mount Meru presents the ultimate test to alpinists Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk. Aiming for a summit atop thousands of feet of sheer granite, their eighteen-day ascent is racked by storm and cold. Delving deep into their souls to find the will to continue, and relying on teamwork and trust, they survive the hardest climb of their careers.

There are some absolutely amazing videos out there of that trip on a blog put together by Renan Ozturk. Search them down, your work productivity will go way down for the day.

I just saw this presentation last Friday... I loved that it was not a we-climbed-mt-blahblahblah-&-almost-died story, but just as exciting. Not mentioned in the promo stuff:

-Galen Rowell was part of the team (it was his last expedition, a month or two before the plane crash)

-Rick "K2 sans O2" Ridgeway was also a part of this.

not sure if this FB link works but here's a clip. Prolly not the most riveting part of the expedition but the background of the 17K plateau foreshadows later parts of the presentation http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/video/video.php?v=165156033835
