Looks like a hericium at first glance, probably a hericium abietus (Conifer Coral hericium) if it was in our area growing on a conifer...usually doug fir.

 

All the hericiums are delicious if fresh (but they don't last long), either raw or sauteed, plus they have no known poisonous lookalikes.

 

shoot... would have went well with the huckleberries (both seen last week on the lower Goat Flats trail)
