Vickster Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Does anyone out there have glacier goggles from http://www.atomefabrik.com/ and are they any good? I'm considering ordering a crazy pair of custom glacier goggles from this site but I do not want my eyes to melt. Thanks, Jim Quote
Mtguide Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Never saw these before. They look a little heavy(no pun intended)-also I wonder how well ventilated they are. Great site, cool art fashion, but not sure how practical they are. 100% UV protection is fine, but fogging, falsifying color, durability, etc. are important issues up on the mountain. I have a couple pair of Julbo glacier goggles, really excellent, if a little pricey. Google "Julbo Glacier Glasses" for a ton of sources and catalogs. Whittaker Mountaineering has an excellent selection with "guides' choice" ratings, Zappos and Sierra Trading Post have some of the best prices. Quote
OlympicMtnBoy Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I'm pretty sure your eyes will melt, but you will look funky doin it. I'd love to see those up on a big mountain! Quote
DanO Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 (edited) You can go to a welding store and pick up "cheap" glacier glasses just get a pair of the sunglasses/safety glasses with the number 5 lenses used for torch welding. I have used them some, but don't know about multiple day usage so you do so at your own risk. They are a lot cheaper than regular glacier glasses. If nothing else not a bad option for back ups or extras. Dan Edited April 24, 2009 by DanO Quote
