I have been planning to spend a week at Lake Ediza, and climb Banner Peak and Mt Ritter. This is at the very end of JUNE. Can anyone in that area tell me if they think this year is a 'high snow' year? Should I even hope that there will be some dry land exposed at Lake Ediza that early in the season?

That should be a really good time to go, but you could probably expect that there'll still be some snow around Lake Ediza. You'd certainly want to take an ice axe and crampons. Call the folks at Mammoth Mountaineering Supply, 760-934-4191, in Mammoth, for a more first hand evaluation.

Also Google "Sierra Nevada Snow Survey" which will bring up a ton of sites/links/info on current and projected snow levels for any desired location in the Sierras. There's a link specific to the Eastern Sierras. Best of luck, have fun.

There will most likely be dry exposed ground. Ediza is in the low 9000s if I remember correctly. I was on the West side of Banner/Ritter in late June of last year, and it was a moderate snow year and there was zero problems camping up to 9,500.

Thanks for the comments. I am feeling much more optimistic about this now. Great site for snow levels. I am surprized that the snow does not seem so deep there, even now: 24" at 7,000ft.
