timmy_t Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I'm studying in Switzerland (near Villars) until mid-April, and I have my skis here, and I'm wondering if anybody will be around to ski the Haute Route (Chamonix to Zermatt) any time in April. If anybody's done it, or has any advice, that would be SWEEEET. PM me, or whatever. tim (from Mount Vernon when I'm not in Suisse...) Quote
waterboy Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Tim, I'm going to be in Chamonix April 12-18. I will have my skis and climbing gear, although probably won't have enough time for the Haute route. I would be up for climbing something in the Mont Blanc range. I already have a partner lined up for the Goullette Chere, but I might also be interested in planning something on the Cosmiques ridge or something like that. Does anyone have any good hotel recommendations for climbers in Chamonix? Quote
ScaredSilly Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 When in Cham I like staying here: http://www.latapia.com great folks who run the place. Easy walking into town. I have skied most of the Haute Route. April/May is full on Haute Route season so make a reservation for the huts, bring your ear plugs, most of all ski light and bring your credit card. If you get the chance ski the Mer de Glace. Preferably on a beautiful day with a beautiful woman. Take a bottle of wine, a fresh baguette, some good cheese and salami, you get the idea. Oh if you are not a member of the French or Swiss Alpine Club. Join as you will get a discount at the huts. AAC members have some privileges as well. Either way the rescue insurance provided by the alpine clubs is a great benefit in case you need to call for the secours otherwise get out your visa card. Quote
