JoshK Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 What is the status of this oft-changing approach road? i know it has beenovergrown and impassable at times passed, and also apparently permanently closed at some point? I am interested in going to Big Snow Mt, but have no idea how much road travel this may require. Any ideas? Thanks! Quote
tazz Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 last i knew the gate is still up at dingford but remember something about it being washed out the last floods...maybe it was wishful thinking. If it is up then it is another 7 miles one way to add! there are also many washouts and slides (just not sure exactly where), more info from a few weeks ago here...road beta Myrtle lake/North slope route may be your best option. there is also a possible route up the Southwest ridge from Hester lake trail. JoshK Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Hi tazz, thank you for the info. It does look like the north slopes would be the way to go. I was eyeing that side anyway since this would be a ski objective and that side looks like it would hold some good turns. Quote
Wastral Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 North side has possible good turns either to Gold Lake true north or North west back towards Hester Lake. Last time I was up there in June and snow level went all the way down to Gold Lake. Brian Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 the approach from the north side seems to be good for a skiing objective. the approach from middle fork is best for a summer hike, because you pass by the potholes along the way. unfortunately the access is getting worse. Quote
