Nomad75 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Hello all, I am looking at attempting the south route the first week of March. I am wondering what the avy danger is around that route? I know the weather will be against us with only a slight chance for the summit, however I will hope to get a break in the weather. Ant beta would be appreciated. I was at Rainier last summer and am itching to go to the PNW. Thanks Quote
ivan Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 hood is a step down from rainier the avi danger is generally low below the hogsback at 10.5k, so unless the weather sucks you most likely will be able to get there - avi-danger generally isn't much of an issue on the dog route, so really just sacrifice your chickens to the weather-gods and, inshahallah, you will summit. march frequently has fantastic conditions. if things are good, you likely will have dozens of folks up there w/ you, so leave balls early if you wanna have some relative solitude. Nomad75 Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Thank you, that puts my small brain at ease. Quote
arctic rob Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 The route above the hogsback is prone to serious wind slab above the bergshrund so pay attention to the snow conditions even on the dog route. Quote
