mike_m Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Glen Denny will be presenting a slideshow based on his recent book of B&W photos of "Yosemite in the Sixties" at 7pm next Friday night, 11/14, at the new Mountaineers clubhouse. (7700 Sandpoint Way; Bldg 67 at Magnuson Park). Should be a great program.
Peter_Puget Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Anyone else go to this presentation? The new Mountie facility looks really spiffy. The show was fun and there was a pretty diverse crowd. The sound system needed a bit of tweaking (in otherwords it was difficult to hear everything) but otherwise it was a good presentaion. There was even a shot of CC.com's own Mister E! The only thing missing was a couple of kegs in the lobby!
Otto Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 It was cool to see a photo of ~24 year old Fred, with ~84 year old Fred there in the audience... Among other things. Lots of great photos there, of heros and fireballs. I especially liked the early shots of Dihedral Wall, his 3rd ascent of the Nose, and the blankness of NA Wall.
Peter_Puget Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I think Fred was much older than 24 in the 60s.
climbinggal Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I was there, was great to meet Fred Beckey and Glen Denny; the history of their climbing was quite interesting, a year on from learning to climb and he was up a huge wall like that, I could not compete with that.
