mattp Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I'm just getting over 6 months of being an invalid and looking for some fall color up at Darrington. One possible scenario involves a bit of route maintenance at 3:00 rock. Any takers? Quote
Peakpimp Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I'd be up to get out with ya on sunday if youre available then! Quote
jshamster Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Sure Matt, I'd love to. I've been wanting to pick your brain about Squire Creek Wall anyway. I'm in Snohomish. Can call @ three six oh nine two seven 2550. Or PM here. I'll check a bit later. Cheers. Jimbo Quote
mattp Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 Sunday is the better forecast but Saturday is my day. Squire Creek Wall? The biggest piece of granite in the state (well maybe aside from the Stuart Range), and gnarly. This is a shot of Not Fred Beckey's, taken from a spot that is about 7 pitches up from where you rope up. Quote
mattp Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Fall color found! It was looking pretty drippy in Darrington this morning, but it turned out OK! Thanks, Jimbo, for another day of climbing. Quote
jshamster Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Great day out Matt. Thanks! I managed to make it out there on Sunday as well. We thought we climbed Tidbits, but ended up on Gastroblast instead. Oh well. Good climbing anyway. I forgot to bring a second rope, so we had a bit of an adventure making our way down the wall. Lots of folks out on Sunday. Pretty much a party on everything from Cornucopia to past Tidbits. Cheers. Jimbo Quote
mattp Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 Gastroblast is good, but Tidbits even better. For a long time I've wanted a shot of climbers on Gastroblast as viewed from somewhere over toward the base of Till Broad Daylight. I've never been so lucky as to be up there when anybody else was on Gastroblast. Cool anti-knob feature on Gastroblast, too, eh? Did you end up doing a single bolt rappel or two? Quote
jshamster Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 No single bolt raps. We actually used the same slings that you and I put on that small tree. Then another tree. Then anchors down to the base of 'Til Broad Daylight. Not too bad. Just took awhile. Quote
mattp Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Aha. You missed the fairly good (diagonal) last pitch of Gastroblast/The Kone which is all on clean rock with cool features. Quote
