cookiejar Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I'm going this weekend. Considering doing some scramble around the area. I'm doing Dragontail and Colchuck one day, Little Annapurna and Witches tower the second. How are the conditions now? crampons/ice ax needed? Thanks. Quote
Bug Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 If you are doing the Colchuck glacier, you will probably encounter hard, low angle ice. I would take one ice ax and crampons for that. Otherwise, do a different route or skip Colchuck altogether. Quote
Sol Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 expect hard snow and ice; late summer conditions. Quote
jared_j Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 The first pic here is the Colchuck glacier as seen from the base of Serpentine a few weeks ago; might be a little thin for climbing. FYI; maybe you're thinking a different route, though. Quote
