shaoleung Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Planning on playing on Ingalls this week. Last time I did it, we were 4 with two ropes and ended up using both for the first rap. This time we're two and want to stick with a single 60m. If my memory serves me, we'll have to do a descending lead from the summit to the enormous South Face ledge... unless we bring another rope. Is this correct? Quote
Clarence Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I was up there in June, I think that it does require a double-rope-rap, if I recall correctly. Quote
mike_m Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Yep, one double rope rap from the top to the chains, another one will get you to the station at the top of the scramble? pitch Quote
BigLegs Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 You can do it with a single 60M rap. First rap from the bolts above the big ledge (a walk from the summit) to the bolted anchor mid-face. Second 60M should reach the base of the face, then walk off to the right (climbers left) and around the backside of the dogtooth crags. No need to rap the lower pitches. You can also rap with a single 50 - same strategy except you have to rap around the corner from the mid-face bolts into an alcove (this is climber's right of the main face) then downclimb from there to the base of the route. AR_Guy Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 We rapped off with a single 50 when we did this about a month and a half ago. From the summitt, walk / scramble back to the upper station (2 bolts slung with webbing). Rap to the bolts in mid face as BL says. Then rap around the corner, again as BL says. There's a station set there on a horn as well (might want to bring some webbing or cord to back it up - it was OK when we were there, but who knows what you'll find). From there, we rapped down the face to one of the lower ledges with a well adorned station (webbing and cord city plus rings). From there, we rapped low enough down on the first pitch to be able to down climb some very low 5th to solid ground. With a 50, be sure to set the rope in exactly the middle for the raps - there isnt' a lot of extra on the first rap to the mid face bolted station. A 60 is a much better choice. Quote
