So I'm shopping for a new 40ish L climbing pack. It's gonna see a lot of ski time though. Anybody with experience using BD packs in this size? Choosing between:

Speed

Sphynx

Quantum

Anarchist

Sphynx fo'sho. I have had this pack for 3-4 years and I love it. COMFORTABLE with good support; hauls skis well; has two nice tool holders with bungy ties; holds (weight-wise) way more than they recommend; and even in stress points where I'm expecting it to fail...it hasn't.

One drawback (at least for me anyway) is this rubberized gear 'rack' on the back. I can make it work but it never turns out well and is usually more of a frustration than anything. BUT, I don't think the newer versions have this feature, so you should be ok.

Does this badboy have a removeable hipbelt?

I didn't think it did, but I just looked at it again and sure enough it does. You may have to cut the end of the two side stabilizer straps to get them thru the buckles, but other than that it's doable.

Just got the pack, and the hipbelt removal is no problem. I've only used it trad cragging so far, but it's been great. I'm glad I got the heavier fabric.

Should hold up.

Thanks again
