BDW Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 anyone been up in the washington pass area recently and willing to share approach conditions? going to do a few days of climbing, including liberty bell, concord tower, SEW spire. what are people needing to approach? how much snow?, etc..? thanks! Quote
rob Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 We just did SEWS, approaching from the hairpin turn. Approach was about 50% snow covered -- snow started about half-way up. It is starting to moat out around the top near the col and the usual moating around boulders. There was a bit of snow getting to the base of the route, but it could have been avoided with some scrambling on ledges up above. Approaching from Blue Lake TH looks to have about the same amount of coverage. The snow was pretty soft (partner was in approach shoes), but I was glad to have an axe. But, a couple of trekking poles would probably have been fine, too. Quote
kurthicks Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 trail is mostly melted out to tree line. snow from there. take boots. cutthroat approach is almost totally melted out. approach shoes... snow in the lib bell gully from what i heard. Quote
